State of emergency declared, evacuations ordered amid central B.C. wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service says the blaze was discovered on Friday, May 3.

As of Saturday night, it was estimated to be about 260 hectares in size and was considered to be zero per cent contained.


Twenty firefighters, four air tankers and several pieces of heavy equipment have been deployed to fight the fire.

260 hectares is just shy of a sq mile.

Fire season starts when pogey from last year's fires runs out.

21 fires on the island so far and a very odd rusting of salal which is looking like drought-related illness.

The NDP surplus budget was predicated on a normal fire season, but it is looking like we are going to have another hell summer like the last two.

Which should have been an indicator to up the budget. IF there is an excess at the end of the year it could roll into next year.
