I know it’s summer. Not a time to talk about serious matters. It’s a time for camp and canoes and barbecues.
It’s a perfect time for the “like economy” – that frothy, vacuous and ultimately meaningless economy of social media likes, follows, shares and retweets. Of kitty videos. Photobombs. Celebrities.
(Yes- there was good reason for civil service union Hogs and their allies to be in that Sunny Mood! The idiot Boy Justin was newly elected and that new govt smell had not yet been replaced with the REEK of corruption and anti white bigotry and the stunning defeat of Wynne-bag was comfortably far off in the future!!!!!!)
The like economy tells us Donald Trump is crazy and Hilary Clinton is a crook. It tells us Trudeau goes shirtless. That Suicide Squad was a let down. And that’s as deep as it gets.
The like economy is firing on all cylinders. But – and I hate to be a downer – the real economy isn’t.
(Yes- LIE-beral hypocrisy is becoming glaringly obvious! If the economy is booming then why are all govt deficits rising so swiftly? If things are good then why impose that nasty real estate killing mortgage “means test”? And why be so worried about soaring household debt? And how is it that our booming economy is replacing decent full time jobs with part time CRAP?)
(LIE-berals tell us our economy is BOOMING in one breath - and then tell us that use of food banks and homeless shelters is becoming a CRISIS! LIE-berals assure us they understand we need more public transit- but have NO IDEA where the money will come from since every penny they can beg or borrow is going to supply the Hog gravy train!)
(Here is a NEWS FLASH! LIE-berals should STOP sending TWO BILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR to Viet Nam to buy USELESS CARBON CREDITS! And LIE-berals should STOP sending aid money to Muslim terror group Hamas! In 4 short years of LIE-beral waste and virtue signalling- LIE-berals have wasted something like TEN BILLION DOLLARS just on Hamas and Viet Nam alone- with NOTHING to show for it! In late 2007, Wall Street collapsed and a recession cascaded through economies around the world. Our economy has never gotten close to the 5.8% unemployment rate of late 2007. Canada’s July unemployment rate is 6.9% -- up from the month before.
(“Wall Street collapsed” is a LIE-beral euphemism meaning WE WENT BANKRUPT! And we would have been buried in our own debt and drowned except LIE-berals printed up a pile of money that- among other inflationary results -saw the price of housing shoot up at record levels! Now govt is getting nervous and the printing presses are halting- no new easy money and the economy is booming to a halt amidst bitter anger at falling wages and rising costs!)
More concerning, our employment rate – the percentage of working-age people with a job – is at a 15 year low.
(The UGLY REALITY is that LIE-berals are PLAYING with our job numbers by the simple expedient of ALTERING the definition of full employment! Used to be you had minimum 40 hours per week of work through the year- but now you are counted as fully employed if you have 28 hours of work!)
The average Canadian wage – $23.65 – has been falling this year. It’s only two pennies higher than twelve months ago.
(But the cost of everything is UP! Electricity- thanks to LIE-beral mouldy green power price gouging! Food- thanks to LIE-beral carbon crap and trade tax scam hitting the cost of EVERYTHING! Govt bills for emergency road repairs and flooding from neglected storm sewers and water main breaks! LIE-berals bumped the tax on auto insurance from the usual HST 13 percent up to 15 percent- even as they promised us a 15 percent price reduction AND at the same time they REDUCED accident benefits for major injuries by FIFTY PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!)
(LIE-berals have put up the minimum wage to $14 dollars per hour- and then TAXED it all away again! And the bump in minimum wage has destroyed nearly 60,000 jobs in Ontariu-owe making it that much harder for kids to pay the rising tuition for vital college or university !!!!!!!!!!!!!)
From 1970 until the Wall Street crash, Canadians exported more than we imported. Now we have a record-setting $15 billion annual trade deficit.

Growth is a pathetic 1.1%. Manufacturing is at the same level as 1999. Mining is at 2007 levels. Pulp and paper is done. The Saudis punched our energy sector in the gut.
Despite its frothy run-up so far this year, the Toronto Stock Market Index is lower today than it was on the eve of the Wall Street recession.
And we are falling behind in the transition to a low-carbon economy. The Trudeau government isn’t even hitting Harper’s carbon targets.
(And the LIE-beral claim that a carbon crap and trade tax scam is good for something/anything other than cleaning cash from wallets is being shown as LUDICROUS and self serving LIE-beral Fake News! And how absurd is it that LIE-berals cheered the Paris Accord to the skies a few short years ago and now tell us it is COMPLETELY WORTHLESS- exactly as critics had warned!!!!!!!!!)
Yes, the service sector is growing. And a real estate boom – bubble? – in our big cities is supporting a growing construction sector. I’ll give you that.
(Oh but now housing has collapsed thanks to LIE-beral mandated interest rates and thanks to their stress test that is restricting access to mortgages and raising costs! And of course a LOT of older people counted on getting a high price for their city home when they retired and now old folks are being forced to retire early and dealing with more sluggish sales and reduced prices- even as govt tax inflation punches their budgets!!!!!!!!!)
Now, kitty videos are cute. And it’s hysterical to see raccoons with garbage bins stuck on their heads. But can we stop the like economy’s tweet-of-the-day political analysis?
Or perhaps this is all we get. Perhaps our established political and opinion class has nothing meaningful to say. That’s a big danger.

Countries that don’t make economic choices drift in a sea where others push the tides and currents.
Just one example: Germany has focused on building their manufacturing sector. And it’s grown about 50% over 15 years. The German manufacturing powerhouse delivers a $25 billion annual trade surplus and a 4.2% unemployment rate. They made their choice.
(Germany CAN afford to focus on manufacturing since they are NOT working with a branch plant economy that is restricted to selling ONLY in tis domestic market! Germans sell products around the world- Cdn makers sell only in local markets as the multi national parent that we sold ourselves to likes it that way!!!!)
(Even worse- such effort as LIE-berals make to create new jobs too often backfires badly- due to LIE-beral self serving GREED! Look at the mouldy green power mess that is so bad it DESTROYED Wynne-bag LIE-beral Ontariowe! Or ask Toronto Transit Copr how they like the vehicles Bombardier is NOT SELLING to TTC! Our idiot Boy gave Bombardier a billion dollars in grants and now the company has MISSED every single delivery date in its pair of TTC contracts- for street cars and LRT! On the other hand, last year Prime Minister Trudeau said Ontario should be “transitioning away from manufacturing-based employment as a driver in the economy.” Toward what?
(Certainly not towards oil refining nor producing equipment for installing or maintaining oil pipelines! Our idiot Boy has spent $4.7 billion dollars to buy Kinder Morgan pipe and let it ROT while Alberta goes bankrupt due to inability to ship its most profitable product to market!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Since the collapse of Stephen Harper’s strategy of rapid resource extraction, it seems we’re satisfied with the like economy. We don’t choose. We drift.

We should choose to make employment – including for young Canadians – our economic focus. Others do. But it hasn’t been ours for a long time, if ever. We’ve been focused on holding down inflation. Holding up corporate profits. Cutting corporate taxes. And look where we are.

Countries that choose a jobs-focused economy policy concentrate on skills, education, innovation, knowledge and social partnerships. They develop services, like training and childcare, that support paycheques of working people. They know what they’re good at and strengthen their strengths. They push the tides. Not drift on them.
(Countries that focus on innovation, social partnerships and childcare end up producing economic refugees! Just look at the number of workers from the E.U. that have come to Canada to work under the table! The LIE-beral focus is on buying votes at any price!
