This is actually looking to be the case.
GM is going all-electric by early next decade - which means within 5 years.
The decision has been made. I hope hydrogen technology continues to evolve. It might be an all around better solution.
We'll go back to burning coal to satisfy the sudden spike in demand for electricity to charge cars and generate hydrogen gas.

The long and troubled relationship between these two companies notwithstanding, I have long said that an e van is required to cement the commercial viability of the e vehicle. The Dodge Caravan currently holds the position as the most widely used commercial vehicle in the North America and needs to be displaced.
It is good to see Mercedes swallowing what little pride it has left to throw in with Tesla again.
It must be hard to cooperate with the company that is putting you out of business.
Since beating them is out of the question joining then (again) may be the only answer.

Electricity is a finite resource. I would agree with them when the technology is developed to the point of them being able to run from Solar panels mounted on the roof.
