Amina Diaby died last year in an accident inside one of the GTA’s largest industrial bakeries where, the company says, worker safety is its highest concern. The 23-year-old was one of thousands of Ontarians who have turned to temporary employment agencies to find jobs that often come with low pay and little training for sometimes dangerous work.

The Star’s Sara Mojtehedzadeh went undercover for a month at the factory where Diaby worked.

There are two dozen of us crowded around a conveyor belt, bodies twisting to snatch dough off the line. The floor is strewn with raw pastries that seem to accumulate faster than anyone can sweep them up. They collect in bloated masses at our feet.

It is my first day as a temp at Fiera Foods, an industrial bakery that reeks of yeast and is alive with the constant drone of machinery.

We are forming and packing raw, circular pastry dough into wet plastic trays — a shoulder-crunching task called pinching. These may well be the croissants you eat for breakfast.

Supervisors shout at us to wake up. They shout at us to move faster, pinch nicer, work harder. No one talks through the noise and exhaustion.

The factory relies heavily on temporary help agency workers. Its health and safety record is checkered; three temps have died here or at Fiera’s affiliated companies since 1999.

Across the province, more and more people are relying on temp agencies to find work. When they do, statistics show they are more likely to get hurt on the job.

(Does this ugly work environment sound like some sort of Brave New World?)

I am undercover to investigate why.

During her undercover stint at Fiera Foods Sara Mojtehedzadeh worked on the croissant production line. She describes the pace of the work as crushing. Sara Mojtehedzadeh

Fiera’s current clients include some of the continent’s biggest brands including Dunkin’ Donuts and Sobeys; over the years it has made pastries for Costco, Tim Hortons, Metro, Walmart, and Loblaw. Its factories churn out baked goods by the truckload, destined for markets across North America and around the world. They can produce 2 million bagels alone per day.

Fiera said health and safety is a “core principle,” in response to questions from the Star. It said it contributes to Ontario’s “economic well-being” with more than 1,200 people working at its facilities in the GTA, and that it believes strongly in helping immigrants “find work and build their futures in Canada.” It also said it uses strict criteria when choosing temp agencies to work with. The company says it has given almost $1.5 million to health-care initiatives and minority communities over the past decade.

It has also received some $4.7 million in government loans and grants to expand capacity and create good jobs. The company says all employees are given “in-depth training” and that Fiera has invested half a million dollars in health and safety initiatives over the past two years.

(Oh- $4.7 million in govt loans and grants- so much for LIE-berals whining about Doug Ford and corporate welfare! Especially since Wynne-bag LIE-berals gave out $100 million dollars to Honda to expand its Alliston plant!)

I get about five minutes of training in a factory packed with industrial equipment.

I am paid in cash with no deductions or pay stubs. I pick up my wages from a payday lender, a 35-minute bus ride from the factory.

Fiera has been slapped with 191 orders for health and safety violations over the past two decades, for everything from lack of proper guarding on machines to unsafely stored gas cylinders.

(So what else is new- TSA had ticketed Sunrise Propane 3 times for illegally transferring propane from truck to truck INSTEAD of from truck to storage tank! Transferring from truck to truck allows static electricity to build up and it causes explosions- as the people around the Sunrise site- whose houses were demolished in the resulting blast can attest to!)

(Or we could talk about tv show W-5 that spent ten years exposing how unscrupulous used car dealers bought and rebuilt car wrecks and then sold them for handsome profits even though the cars were structurally unsound and unsafe in an accident! It took TEN YEARS of public shaming to get govt Hogs to take action against the wreck sellers!)

(LIE-berals TALK OFTEN about good jobs and worker safety but their mad tax policies are turning us into a nation of part timers and contract peons and temp agencies are facilitating the change!)

At least a dozen of the women I meet on my assembly line at Fiera, a multimillion dollar company, are hired through temp agencies.

Temp agency workers are changing the face of labour in Ontario.

In workplaces around the province, the use of temp agencies limits companies’ liability for accidents on the job, reduces their responsibility for employees’ rights, and cuts costs.

(Actually considering the premiums that are paid to temp agencies- I am not sure it does reduce cost to the employer! What it DOES DO is ensure a steady supply of workers who are still hungry for cash and not yet burned out!)

(LIE-berals and temp agencies are playing an UGLY WELFARE GAME with our money! The person on welfare or unemployment insurance can earn a certain amount of money before having benefits clawed back and companies are taking advantage of this! Desperate people who cannot live on their welfare payments are lured into these McJobs as a form of indentured servitude!)

(If you could get a real job you could get off welfare- but there are no real jobs because companies would rather deal with easily FIRED temp workers! And of course temp workers DO NOT get those PAID sick days that LIE-berals offered up as an election bribe! LIE-berals display their gross hypocrisy by whining that Ford is attacking workers by cancelling the two paid sick days that most workers do not get- meaning temp workers! Or that workers DO NOT NEED- meaning most civil service union Hogs already have wonderful sick leave provisions in place! LIE-berals LOVE two tier labour rates to benefit their PALS!!!!!!!!!!)

(LIE-berals are so generous to their friends that Ontari-owe teachers now have permission to stay home INDEFINITELY on full pay! Just phone in and cough and announce teacher will be staying home till........whenever!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Amina Diaby had been working at Fiera Foods for just two weeks when she was killed on the job.

When I walk into the factory, I see mostly people of colour. Many are new Canadians. Many told me they have taken this job for one reason: to survive.

In August, charges were laid against Fiera Foods under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the 2016 death of a temp agency worker named Amina Diaby. Her hijab was caught in a machine, strangling her.

(Ah- as I suspected- the woman was Muslim! And we have had reports out of England that Muslims are more easily RADICALIZED if they do not get good, steady, reliable work! Will the husband and family of Amina Diaby think more or LESS kindly of Canada now that their family member has been killed at a sloppy work place?)

(And what of the Hijab? Most machinery of any sort carries labels WARNING SPECIFICALLY against the operator wearing loose clothing! Are Muslim women properly dressed to operate machinery safely? Sounds like NO!!!!!!!!)

She was 23 years old. She was a refugee trying to save for nursing school. She had been on the job two weeks.

Fiera Foods’ Marmora St. factory in North York sits beside a highway and behind a Bingo hall, a sprawling presence on a small cul-de-sac dotted with storefront churches and auto-repair shops.

The company also owns another factory close by. Randy Risling

A white placard adorns the factory’s main entrance. It directs workers with “temporary employment” inquiries inside.

Fiera Foods is a private company founded by Boris Serebryany and Alex Garber in 1987, after the two men emigrated from the former Soviet Union. Fiera has another factory on Norelco Dr., about 15 minutes away from the Marmora St. plant. Boris and Alex are also the administrators of Tristar Bakers and Bakery Deluxe Co., located on Norfinch Dr.

(AH- And where would two Russian immigrants from the impoverished 1987 Soviet Union get the money to open such facilities? Shall we ask if it is a combination of Russian Mob money and exploitation of workers that is behind the success? And we KNOW LIE-berals do not bother to track laundered money!)

Adjacent to Fiera’s Marmora St. plant is Marmora Freezing Corp., whose administrators are Anna Garber and Boris’s daughter Carmela Serebryany-Harris. Carmela is also one of the administrators of CMS Ontario, along with Susin Svetlana Garber. David Gelbloom is the administrator of Upper Crust.

Fiera describes these five companies as its “alliance partners.”

(Uh huh-and this biz sounds just like the old days of the “Family Compact” in Upper Canada- that gang of Brit aristocrats - all related by blood and marriage who treated Canada like a private piggy bank! It took a rebellion to dump the Family Compact!)

Here is the truth about the beliefs of ordinary Cdns regarding Muslim immigrants-with the same values needing to be applied to illegals generally. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Last year, I revealed news that the imam of a mosque that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited was publicly listed on the mosque’s very website as the member of a group that was designated a terrorist organization abroad and whose leader had been banned from entering the United Kingdom and France for his extremist views.

While regular Canadians read the story with great interest, the mainstream media surprisingly wanted nothing to do with it.

The only other coverage that came out of it was a write up or two of the press release the mosque sent out denouncing my reporting. At the same time, local politicians and even law enforcement took aim at me and someone at the Prime Minister’s Office even had the gall to call me up and chew me out for it.

(And LIE-berals wonder why we are worried about their M 103 `motion` condemning Islamophobia and why we are being such `bigots` when LIE-berals sneer at a Cdn reporter just doing his job? AND LIE-berals are also offended by being CALLED LIE-berals-even as they get caught `managing` fake news!)

Nobody ever did explain what was incorrect about my reporting, despite my multiple attempts to receive clarification from the mosque and imam. As such, the story today remains on the record -although the mosque's website now no longer mentions the group in question.

(Typical LIE-beral/Muslim handling of propaganda-if it is hidden from western view then they can claim it must be `untrue`?)

Then along comes M103, Liberal MP Iqra Khalid’s motion that denounces all forms of racism and discrimination and calls for a committee study into the issue but singles out that nebulous buzzword “Islamophobia”.

(And just what is that committee studying? They KNOW we are worried about Jihadist jerks attacking us. They know we are looking at a pack of Muslim newcomers who want to change Canada to suit themselves and are expecting WE will foot the bills for their wants! They KNOW there is a LONG list of Muslims choosing to attack the people they were born amongst. I have said before that Islamophobia is LIE-beral slang for people who are critical of LIE-beral policy!)

I’ve just looked back on the press release the mosque sent out concerning my work and see with great interest that my piece, according to them, “fans the flame of Islamophobia”.

Oh dear. Looks like I’m in a bit of a pickle here. Canada’s parliamentarians are poised to exercise their vote in the coming months to call for a committee to deal with ... me? And for what wrong-doing? For reporting something that in the eyes of me, my editors and my lawyers appeared to be a basic fact?

(And LIE-berals are also attacking ordinary Cdns who happen to think that “basic fact” about the Jihadists creeping amongst us is of concern to them!)

This in a nutshell illustrates the problematic direction this motion could be heading us in and why so many thousands of Canadians have taken to speaking up on it via emails to their MPs and adding their names to petitions.

Liberal MP Arif Virani said in the House of Commons recently that “understanding what we mean by Islamophobia is not difficult. When we speak about Islamophobia, we are not talking about legitimate questions about a religion or a respectful criticism of religious practices. When we speak about Islamophobia, we are talking about taking a stand against prejudice, against abuse, against discrimination targeted toward individuals for no reason other than the fact that they practise Islam.”

Decent people should agree about the abuse and targeting part. The violent threats Khalid has received are wrong and appropriate legal action should be taken. Full stop.

But it’s when we start talking about what is and isn’t a “legitimate” or “respectful” question that you run into trouble. Who among us should be trusted to define these parameters? I was denounced for “Islamophobia” for simply doing my job. Clearly my line of inquiry was illegitimate and disrespectful in the eyes of some, including the PMO.

(There is also the very sensitive Muslim ego to consider when making any comment about Islam. For instance, Muslims consider any art display of human image to be blasphemous. So when a Danish cartoonist produced an image of a Muslim with a bomb in his turban, we all laughed while Muslims burned at the insult to Islam generally and to Allah specifically. It is this reasoning that persuaded Muslims to murder the Danish cartoonist and his editor! Muslims wish to carefully edit anything we may want to say about Islam-and their editing will INCLUDE removal of any comment alleging Muslim bigotry or decrying Muslims for seeking violent solutions to all their alleged troubles, slights and injuries.)

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the many hundreds of emails, phone calls and social media messages I’ve received over the past few weeks, it’s that Canadians want more light shone on radical Islam, not less.

The discussion around M103 has served as something of a catalyst. It's opened a Pandora’s box of broader questions and concerns about Islam in Canada that can’t be neatly put back together.

If the mainstream refuses to be a responsible conduit for the discussion, it’ll keep being had on social media or in the fringes of alternative news forums where there are few moderating voices to steer it on the right path. In the mean time, people’s trust in traditional voices will only erode further.

(Its worth pointing out that public faith in LIE-berals is also being seriously eroded as LIE-berals seek ever more devious ways to move ahead with their grossly self serving policies-designed ONLY to ensure they buy enough votes to cling to power! If LIE-berals manage to win another election after having displayed this sort of duplicity and reverse bigotry they will be emboldened and will brazenly move ahead with policies that many Cdns think are short sighted, selfish and destructive!)

OTTAWA — Montreal-based global engineering giant SNC-Lavalin continues to dig out from a series of corporate governance scandals, this time involving improper donations to federal political parties over a seven-year period ending in 2011.

A compliance agreement with the federal elections commissioner, announced Thursday, details almost $118,000 in donations to the Liberal and Conservative parties through company employees or their spouses who were then reimbursed by SNC-Lavalin.

This illegal practice for skirting corporate donation limits was identified by a Quebec anti-corruption inquiry as a widespread problem in municipal and Quebec provincial politics, although the provincial Charbonneau Commission’s mandate prevented it from following federal political threads.

Not so federal Elections Commissioner Yves Côté, whose office says it continues to pursue the matter.

(And we have had a series of reports that indicate that Quebec has the most corrupt govts in Canada! With organized crime being so well set up that ALL govt contracts allegedly carry a “finders fee” for criminals! And based on what is happening with Raybould it would appear that Our idiot Boy wants to make damned sure that VERY LITTLE dirty laundry gets aired in public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

According to the agreement entered into by SNC-Lavalin, former senior executives approached employees to make political contributions and, in some cases, those employees were reimbursed with refunds for false personal expenses, fictitious bonuses or other benefits.

The improperly donated sums included: $83,534.51 to the Liberal Party of Canada; $13,552.13 to various Liberal riding associations; $12,529.12 to four contestants in the 2006 Liberal leadership race, including $5,000 each to Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae; $3,1137.73 to the Conservative Party of Canada; and $5,050 to various Conservative riding associations.

(Oh that`s NICE! Lavalin admits to giving out $118 grand in court and then lawyers will forget about the tens of millions! AND Lavalin gives that token $13 million to Conservatives and $83 million to LIE-berals! Give a little to Conservatives just to muddy the waters and give a BIG CHUNK to LIE-berals- that Lavalin clearly prefers!!!!!!!!!)

All the funds have been repaid to the federal treasury by the respective national parties, both of whom disavow any knowledge of the scheme.

(The entire court deal is a DIRTY SNAKE PIT and there apparently needs TO BE A PUBLIC AIRING OF THE DIRTY LAUNDRY! The fact that Conservative Scheer is demanding a FULL INQUIRY while Our idiot Boy is apparently trying to make the problems DISAPPEAR and is so eager to dismiss the mess that he would get into a public dog fight with his Justice Minister over his alleged “directing” of the court case rather suggests that LIE-berals DO KNOW all about the dirt -while Conservatives DO NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

“As soon as LPC was made aware of the issue last month by Elections Canada, the party acted immediately to fully reimburse all of the amounts involved, including those pertaining to 2006 leadership campaigns (which have long since closed their accounts),” Liberal spokesman Braeden Caley said in an email.

Conservative party spokesman Cory Hann said the improper funds “were returned to the receiver general as soon as we were notified these individuals’ donations were reimbursed by a corporation,” adding the party expects donors to act truthfully and within the law.

The independent elections watchdog said SNC-Lavalin co-operated fully with its investigation, accepts responsibility for the improper payments and acknowledges the contributions were made on the company’s behalf. The compliance agreement, however, does not constitute an admission of guilt under criminal law.

The deal includes SNC-Lavalin hiring an in-house ethics watchdog, putting in place new “compliance and governance policies to detect, curb and prevent ethically problematic practices” and updating its corporate code of conduct to specifically deal with political donations.

“I am pleased that this agreement was reached,” SNC-Lavalin CEO Neil Bruce said in a statement. “It once again shows our desire and commitment to resolve past issues.”

(Uh huh! Or at least it reveals how badly Lavalin officials want to bury this dogs breakfast- with LIE-beral AID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Earlier this year, SNC-Lavalin announced it was making restitution to municipalities and other public bodies in Quebec for obtaining contracts through questionable means. The provincial government started a program last year to recover money paid in connection with public contracts obtained as a result of fraud or fraudulent tactics.

(And just HOW FAR does this use of “questionable means” extend into Quebec Politics? How much of the truth has YET TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY-now that lawyers have agreed to bury the legal hatchet AND any undisclosed truth???) And shall we assume that this years legal penalties will be TAX DEDUCTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR ????)

Last December, the company signed a confidential “administrative agreement” with the federal Public Works Department that allows it to continue bidding on government contracts while overseas corruption charges against former SNC-Lavalin executives work their way through the courts. Under new rules introduced just before last year’s federal election, companies facing corruption charges can be barred from bidding on government work for 18 months — or for 10 years upon conviction.

( If the “administrative agreement” is squeaky clean then WHY is it confidential?)

(And the new anti corruption charges were introduced by Harper Conservatives early in 2015? Suggesting that Harper was getting steadily increasing hints of how big the Lavalin problem might be - if anybody investigated it fully and honestly! So Harper moved to make it harder for schemers to profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Analysts estimate as much as 20 per cent of SNC-Lavalin’s business is with Canadian governments.

Back in 2004, when the compliance agreement says the first improper party donations were occurring, SNC-Lavalin was a partner in one of the principal private supply contracts for the Canadian military in Afghanistan, operating on a 10-year contract worth as much as $700 million, according to one report.

(And it was LIE-beral Chretien that sent the Cdn troops to Afghanistan!)

The Charbonneau Commission, which began its work in 2011, heard allegations about the existence of an illegal political fund raising system that was controlled, municipally and provincially, by engineering companies that were also active in political financing at the federal level.

(OH? Illegal fund raising by engineering companies -as in PLURAL? So who else is involved? Or was the Charbonneau investigative mandate TOO LIMITED????)

One witness, former construction boss Lino Zambito, testified that bigger engineering companies often demanded he deliver cash donations to provincial parties in amounts far exceeding the legal fundraising limit. Zambito said he would split up the donations and filter them through friends, family and employees.

(Gosh! Witness Zambito certainly THINKS there were multiple engineering companies involved! I guess nobody checked out his testimony??????)

(WE may even ask if the employees EVEN KNEW they were making donations? After all who is to say donations were not made in their names by anonymous others? How dirty did this established business get???????????)

SNC-Lavalin vice-president Yves Cadotte testified the company helped raise money for Quebec political parties despite a three-decade-old law against corporate donations. He told the commission dozens of SNC executives donated just over $1 million to the Quebec Liberal party and the Parti Quebecois between 1998 and 2010.

(AS I recall, it was Bloc Quebecois leaders who banned corporate donations to provincial political parties in Quebec because the Bloc so seldom got any donations from biz- and so they moved to cancel out the donations to their opponents!)

(That the Lavalin affair has returned to court and come back to the public eye suggests to this disgusted tax payer that the mess has NOT been resolved in a fair and honest way! Apparently all that has been done so far is for some stinking lawyers to gather in a back room and cobble together some quick and dirty excuses and then try to BURY the dirt before the reek gets so nasty it starts damaging political careers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The adscam scandal which occurred when LIE-beral Chretien was PM, and representing Quebec riding- is the greatest Cdn scandal!!! And the Minister in charge at the time was Alphonse Galliano- ALSO from Quebec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(It appears to this disgusted Cdn that the investigation into Adscam was just as INCOMPLETE as the Lavalin inquiry!!!!!!! Chretien made efforts to LIMIT the scope of the investigation and in the end only two men- neither of them actual memebers of the LIE-beral party went to jail!)

(The first man to be convicted was given both a jail term and $2 million dollar fine! With the jail term to be ended just as soon as he paid the fine! And of course at trial the guy pleaded that he was bankrupt! But within two months of getting his sentence - that pay the fine or go to jail deal- the dead broke guy PAID the two million dollar fine! With the help of some very generous anonymous friends!! After all, how many pals would you have to hit up for $2 million dollars WORTH OF GIFTS???????????? )

(When the money was paid up - even the judge was skeptical but the CONVICT glibly explained that some un-named “friends” had helped him out with “donations”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
