What does the school do with the children? Gatto states the following assertions in "Dumbing Us Down": It makes the children confused. It presents an incoherent ensemble of information that the child needs to memorize to stay in school. Apart from the tests and trials that programming is similar to the television, it fills almost all the "free" time of children. One sees and hears something, only to forget it again. It teaches them to accept their class affiliation. It makes them indifferent. It makes them emotionally dependent. It makes them intellectually dependent. It teaches them a kind of self-confidence that requires constant confirmation by experts (provisional self-esteem). It makes it clear to them that they cannot hide, because they are always supervised

Just one of the many unfortunate concequences of letting Lefty's get control of our education system. They no longer learn that whhich is useful to be a contributing member of society. All they learned is throwing a tantrum will get what you want.

Overall my experience of school was good but I sure wouldn't want to be a student now. Too political for young minds and too many parents who aren't keeping track of what is being (or not being) taught in schools today.

I made my living solving problems that stupid university graduates couldn't and am still alive because of that as well.
;)
So what good is school? All it promotes is controllable mediocrity that benefits only its controllers.

The education system is a big employer when the whole picture is included. You either end up with everybody being very smart and on the ball or you slow it down as much as possible and teach as little as possible because 'Serfs' in the Middle Ages believed all the headlines and willingly gave up all their wealth so their (the Serfs) 'lavish lifestyle' could continue.

In the US in the late '60's it was university students that protested against an fake war, in 1979 it was university students that ended the rule of the CIA in Iran and in 1975 it was university students in Afghanistan that was pushing the 'Hardliners' into the wilderness of the mountains.

When the education industry is bigger than needed you take kids in at 2 years old rather than 6 years and you certainly can't allow 'home schooling' as the employment numbers would jump a few percent, maybe 10% when all the dust settles and the kids would be smarter earlier in life. That is not what the World Bank wants.

No worker over-billed or over-educated for their actual career.

Seems to be more about not leaving any money behind really. Start at 2 tears and require a university level to land the best jobs. Students loans should all be paid off rather than a lot of unemployed people having access to all the big words that can be used show how upset they are, words that still fall on the same deaf ears as the words the rest say. If the people only got the education they needed for the jobs they would have for life what would the top 3% have to pay for their education rather than it is free die to the ones who pay but don't get to play and their outstanding student loans.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_debt
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, outstanding student loan debt in the United States lies between $902 Billion and $1 Trillion with around $864 Billion in Federal student loan debt. As of Quarter 1 in 2012, the average student loan balance for all age groups is $24,301.

The Canadian link was about how to re-finance the loan you can't pay off.

School is indoctrination into whatever society you are born into: how to be a good consumer, how to be a good citizen, how to pay your taxes and contribute to the status quo, how to bend over and receive the big red and white dick being shoved up your ass...
Yup, school was a wonderful experience for some.

I'll bet the garbage man with a phd to pay off sings that as his mantra that keeps away the gloomy clouds.
If every grad had a job and nobody else was 'schooled' but the costs remained the same how much would the education be worth?? 25% finding employment would raise the price by 4x. What does it cost to become a Lawyer or a Doctor today??

Today grade 8 would be 'educated enough' to have a low paying career. If trades and specialties were for the 30-40 year olds they should be able to speed thorough the course just because they want to be in that class or they wouldn't be there and the positions would be there when they finished classes.

The best teacher is the more intelligent natural parent, what they aren't prepared for is how much they also learn along the way.

Homeschooling could be the smartest way to teach kids in the 21st century — here are 5 reasons why
Personalized learning is a strong method of instruction.
Students can learn more about what they really care about.
Social media gives kids a way to form lasting friendships.
Students don't deal with cliques or bullying.
Schooling isn't set apart from the "real world."

Maybe 'the Onion' can do a segment where the person who never went to our version of school gets all the answers right and the grad from Harvard gives only the most popular lie.

So.............I guess you are referring to the civil service union Hogs who are getting at least one third more in pay and also getting way

better pensions than ordinary Cdns ????????????????????

With Hogs CLAIMING they work just as hard as people in the private sector!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can ALWAYS TELL which govt offices have been privatized and taken out of the union control!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The NON union people step right along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Civil service union HOG wage and pension demands are breaking our economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And our Hog freeloaders are engaged in a HUGE conflict of interest at election times as they accept what amounts to LIE-beral BRIBES in exchange for their votes for LIE-berals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its that ONE THIRD HIGHER PAY crap that prompts me to suggest ugly words like BRIBERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
