In the modern world, mainstream economic journalists have just two roles to perform – to convince the public that they have some clue about what is going on; and to maintain public confidence at all costs. So it was, for example, that even as Lehman Brothers was collapsing a decade ago, mainstream economics coverage was still telling investors that their money was safe and that a new age of prosperity was dawning.

Official employment figures are high, but only because of part-time and zero-hours jobs. As the Resolution Foundation recently reported:
“The Foundation cautions that while employment has provided a major living standards boost since the crisis, widespread insecurity has been a big setback with around 800,000 workers currently on zero hours contracts. It adds that Britain’s impressive jobs record contrasts with its dire performance on pay, with real average earnings still £13 a week lower than they were a decade ago.”

A key reason for this, in the UK at least, is that we have been creating the wrong kind of jobs. The employment growth areas in Britain are in low-paid, labour intensive sectors – social care, retail and hospitality. In the years prior to the Sex Discrimination Act, when official unemployment rates were last this low, these would have been regarded as “women’s work” in the sense that they were never expected to provide the main income for a household, but were regarded as an additional income to supplement the wage or salary of the main (usually male) breadwinner in the household. Indeed, even in the more enlightened 1990s and early 2000s, many of these jobs would have been seen as “student jobs” – allowing the first generation obliged to pay for its education to add a small additional income to their maintenance loans. The problem today is that millions of households are obliged to live entirely on the low wages paid by these supplemental jobs. The result, for a growing army of people, is that they have to take on more than one such job and/or claim in-work benefits in order to get by.
In other words, the fact of full-employment is only “good news” insofar as things could be a lot worse. As it is, the collapse in real earnings for the majority is conveniently hidden in media coverage by the use of average wage figures that are increasingly meaningless in a grossly unequal society. The former Trump aide has been accused of slipping the stripper an abortion drug back in 2012.
Miller and the unnamed woman met while she was a dancer at a Florida gentleman’s club.
After falling pregnant he allegedly drugged her resulting in her losing the child and being hospitalized.
Miller, who is embroiled in a messy custody battle with anther former Trump advisor, Arlene ‘AJ’ Delgado, has denied the claims.
The shocking allegations came in documents filed by his former girlfriend Delgado.
She claims Miller, who was married to his current wife Kelly and had a four-year-old daughter, met a dancer who worked there and allegedly continued a sexual relationship, which resulted in the woman’s pregnancy.
The stripper, who has not been identified, allegedly drank the smoothie which contained the abortion drug Splinter, with no knowledge of what was in it, and soon suffered a miscarriage, Delgado claims.
She wound up in hospital, where she stayed for two days, and allegedly nearly lost her life.
‘Jane Doe herself was hospitalized for two days, the abortion pill possibly reacting with potential street drugs in her system at the time she drank the Smoothie,’ the documents said.
Miller released a statement: ‘I have decided to step away from my role as a Political Commentator at CNN to focus on clearing my name and fighting the false and defamatory accusations made against me’.
Miller and Delgado had an affair on the Trump campaign trail, which resulted in Delgado becoming pregnant and giving birth to their son William.
The pair has been in a bitter custody battle for nearly a year, and the bombshell accusations were filed in the case earlier this month.
She claims she fears for their son’s safety during his unsupervised time with the former commentator.

Trump to CNN reporter: 'You are a very rude person'

President Donald Trump tussled with CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta on Wednesday, calling the reporter a "rude, terrible person" after he asked during a press conference about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
"You are a very rude person," Trump told Acosta, who had talked over the president in an attempt to ask his question. "The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible, and the way you treat other people is horrible. You shouldn't treat people that way."
As Acosta attempted to ask follow-up questions about whether Trump was concerned about more indictments from Mueller, a White House staffer attempted to pull the microphone away from him. Trump — while rebuking Acosta and complaining about CNN's negative coverage of him, a frequent target of his ire at rallies and on social media — said the Mueller investigation was a "hoax."
"I'll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them," Trump said to Acosta.
The press conference following the midterm elections was packed with reporters, some of whom talked over each other to grab the president's attention.
"Such a hostile media," Trump said. "It's so sad."
