Saudi Arabia is planning to behead a 29-year-old woman because she’s a political activist.
The UK Independent reports that human rights activists are now fighting to save the life of Israa al-Ghomgham.
The desert kingdom has recently been slamming Canada for its treatment of women following the diplomatic spat between the two countries.
Ghomgham and her husband, Moussa al-Hashem, were arrested in December 2015 for organizing anti-government protests following the Arab Spring.
She was sentenced to death earlier this month.
At a hearing in Riyadh, the public prosecutor recommended execution for Ghomgham and five other defendants under anti-terrorism legislation.

The executions are slated for October if they are ratified by King Salman who signs off on all death penalty cases.
German human rights activist Ali Adubisi said the verdict sets a “dangerous precedent” for female activists.
A number of groups — including Amnesty International — are calling for her immediate release. Ghomgham has been jailed for three years and denied access to a lawyer.
Among her crimes? Calling for the release of political prisoners and an end to institutionalized anti-Shia discrimination.
According to Amnesty, at least 58 people are currently on death row in Saudi Arabia and the group said it ranks among the most “prolific executioners in the world.”
Since Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman took the throne last year, the country has ushered in dozens of social and economic reforms.
While women are now allowed to drive and the shrill tenor of the state’s religious police has been toned, the country still has a long way to go, the United Nations said in a report.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday it rejected accusations by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that two top U.S. diplomats were engaged in what Maduro called a “military conspiracy” or had been meddling in the country’s economic and political issues. Members of a twisted sex grooming gang that unleashed a sick “campaign of rape and other sexual abuse” against vulnerable teen girls have been jailed for a total of 221 years.
The 20 men — who ranged in age from 27 to 54 — are all South Asians using nicknames like “Beastie,” “Dracula” and “Nurse” during their vile reign of terror.
There were 15 victims. The youngest was 11.
Ringleader Amere Singh Dhaliwal, 35, was jailed for life and must serve at least 18 years in prison. Court was told he groomed at least 11 girls.
“Your treatment of these girls was inhuman,” he was told by the judge in Leeds court.
The 20 pedophiles were convicted as part of Operation Tendersea during three trials at Leeds Crown Court throughout 2018.
Twenty men have been found guilty of being part of a grooming gang that raped and abused young girls.
Experts say it may take decades, if not forever, for their young victims to recover.
Among the shocking revelations:
— The rapists used plastic bags as condoms;
— Two of the girls became pregnant and one tried to kill herself;
— Fifteen women told juries the horrors they endured between 2004 and 2011 when they were aged 11 to 17;
— After Dhaliwal “broke them in” the girls would be passed along to other gang members;
— The girls would then be traded to drug dealers in return for narcotics.

“Every time I went out something bad happened. I risked my life every time. I was a mess,” one victim told detectives.
The courtroom revelations left many sobbing.
“You treated them as commodities to be passed around for your own sexual gratification and the gratification of others,” Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told Dhaliwal earlier this year.
The UK has been plagued with a series of grooming gang trials that have largely focused on the country’s South Asian — particularly Pakistani — communities.
Most of the victims were vulnerable white girls.
But much of the sordid activity was swept under the table by local police and social workers who feared being accused of being politically incorrect. The victims were collateral damage.
Barry Sheerman, Labour Cooperative MP, said the authorities didn’t act quickly enough.
“No one, let’s be honest about this, local authority leadership, police, many of the people that should have been taking this more seriously earlier did not,” he told the BBC.

A 2014 report said that more than 1,400 young people were victims of sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.
In a pattern repeated in several other U.K. towns and cities, the perpetrators were mostly men of Pakistani heritage, who befriended teenage girls and plied them with gifts, alcohol and drugs before abusing them.
Prosecutor Michelle Colborne said the victims, now in their 30s, were “targeted, sexualized and, in some instances, subjected to acts of a degrading and violent nature at the hands of these men who sit in the dock.”
“None of them had the maturity to understand that they were being groomed and exploited,” she said.
A jury at Sheffield Crown Court convicted seven defendants of charges including rape and indecent assault. They will be sentenced Nov. 16. An eighth defendant was acquitted.
The cases in Rotherham, Huddersfield, Rochdale and other towns — in which most of the victims were white — have heightened ethnic tensions in Britain. One of just two men to face justice for the horrific 9/11 terror attacks on America is back on the streets and was welcomed home a hero, according to reports.
The evil plot’s money man, Mounir el-Motassadeq, is now in Morocco with his wife and children, the Daily Mail reports. He was released Oct. 15.
At his local mosque in Marrakech, he was treated like a rock star, one neighbour told the newspaper.
The 44-year-old was described in a German court as 9/11 hijackers’ “treasurer.”

He spent less than 15 years in prison for his role in the attacks that left nearly 3,000 people dead in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

“His family was coming from different cities to greet him. They were really happy that he is back. His mum was crying tears of joy. His siblings were really happy.”
She added: “We have been neighbours for years. I knew him before he went to Germany. He goes to the mosque to pray. There’s nothing suspicious. People come and see him and sleep over at his house.”

He moved to Germany in 1993 and ran in the same circles as Atta and other 9/11 terrorists. El-Motassadeq was convicted in 2003 for membership in a terrorist organization.
Germany tacked on 3,066 counts of accessory to murder related to the 9/11 deaths.
In Germany, he controlled a bank account owned by one of the plot’s pilots and arranged for wire transfers.
The courts ruled he was aware Atta, al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah – three of the 9/11 hijackers – planned to take over and crash the planes, even though he might not have known the specifics of the plot.
He has always maintained his innocence, shouting in court: “I swear to God I did not know what they were going to do.”

A 13-year-old Indian girl was beheaded when she refused to have sex with a neighbour from a higher caste.
Cops say the teen was attacked with a farm implement that hacked her head off as she fought to keep her virtue.
The sickening attack is just the latest atrocity in the country’s caste-based violence. Authorities said there were 47,000 incidents of attacks on the lower caste last year.
Investigators say the incident occurred in a small village near Attur.
The accused was named in local media as Dinesh Kumar.
According to detectives, the girl was studying at a nearby school and had reportedly told her family the man was sexually pestering her. She spurned his advances.
Local media said her family was of a lower caste than the accused killer. The caste issue apparently triggered his rage.
“The girl was brutally murdered. The investigation is ongoing and the accused has been arrested,” senior police official Ponkarthik Kumar told CNN.
The suspect has been charged under an act banning caste-based violence.
The girl’s heartbroken mother wants to see Kumar swinging from the end of a rope.
“He said, ‘Sleep with me and I’ll give you flowers and thread’. In fact, she told me about this when we were stringing flowers inside the house,” the unnamed mother said. “That was when Dinesh stormed into the house with a sickle.”
The mother also wants the accused killer’s wife and brother arrested and charged.
“His wife could have raised her voice and warned us. We would have at least gotten out of the house and ran. But she didn’t,” the mother told local reporters.
“In fact, after Dinesh killed my daughter and left with her head, his wife and brother were waiting outside the house. They told him to leave the head inside our house itself. This was a planned murder and hence the police must arrest those two.”

He said one man was in custody and police were looking for others. Police also have asked for CCTV footage and are trying to determine why the girl was left alone in the ICU.
He said the girl had been in the hospital for four days and was being treated for a snake bite.
The hospital is located 250 kilometres southwest of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
