Poor people (as defined by how much money they make) spend something like 170% of their income.

SO minimum wage workers are not socking away money for another day. They are busily spending every penny they earn, and then some.

The only money out there are needs encouragement to get spent is in the hands of people who make more money than they spend on things.

Those are the people who can be encouraged.

For 2017-8 the state of Ohio has published a list of businesses who have the most employees on food stamps.

OHIO? Really. Besides the fact that OHIO's stats on food stamps have no relevance here in Canada, it's just really sloppy research Hoidie. No Canadian studies, reports, or inquiries to quote? Strange that, as it occurs to me there are a plethora of documents available on the internet covering that very subject.

Took me a couple of minutes to find this: http://www.povnet.org/regional/canada-wide/issues/poverty-research

Rank, Company, #of workers/family members

the theory is that families that qualify for food stamps also qualify for every other state and federal income support (welfare)- its is informally called the "Walmart Tax".

You can't have a minimum wage debate without talking about poverty in a larger sense.

Will increasing min wage a couple of bucks an hour actually get people off welfare?

Probably not.

Does having people in poverty cost us any money?

Yes, it does. In many ways.

Increase the min wage to $50/hr, see what the ramifications are

Canada loses 51,000 jobs in August? So the kids have gone back to school then like every other year?

Don't worry Ron, i expect that the employment figures will get much better once the Christmas tree lots open for business.

There is a real lack of disposable income in Canada lately, being we are the kings of personal debt, and with rising interest rates on credit, and rising gas prices, we are headed for a super duper financial disaster.

The only budgets that balance themselves are dead ones.

France tried it and it has been a dismal failure.. A 75% tax rate on income over 1 million Euros. The result is that the wealthy have moved their cash out of France and are thereby supporting (via the tax base) neighboring countries.
But hey, if you want to stick it to Da Man and strike a blow for The People, go on and do it, but just don't bitch about how shitty things are when there's no new money in the system
Not really a very high income threshold. Especially if it includes capital gains.

Minimum wage was never intended to raise families on. For that one family member needs a real job like building oil refineries or running a bank.

Nobody has ever said that minimum wage was intended to raise families on.

Got anything that is current decade? Some of it must have changed in the last ten years as our taxes have certainly gone up dramatically in the last 2 years.

Certainly I can get busy and get some up to date references and you can continue to pull guesses out of your ass.
