Our idiot |Boy has made a STAGGERING MESS of Cdn foreign affairs and trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is an article from CBC Radio setting out the latest NAFTA rules.
5 new rules the U.S.-Mexico trade deal.
CBC/Radio-Canada. Aug 28, 2018
(With some comments of my own in brackets):
After almost a year of negotiations between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to update the 24-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement, the latter two countries announced the , with Canada on the outside looking in — for now.
Here's a rough guide to what's in the agreement:
1. New rules for auto sector
In order for a vehicle to sell in the U.S. without tariffs in the new deal, at least 75 per cent of it must have been built in one of the two countries. NAFTA was more lenient, only requiring a 62.5 per cent quota for a car to be considered "domestic" and thus exempt from tariffs.
A key detail is a requirement that between 40 and 45 per cent of automotive content be made by workers earning at least $16 US per hour. Functionally, that likely means more car parts will be built and assembled in the U.S. But it could also raise wages or add more higher-paying positions in Mexico, too.
(I say GOOD LUCK- those $16.00 per hour jobs will end up in places like Georgia and Tennessee- with robots swiftly taking over production!)
2. Piracy and intellectual property
The agreement will see both countries crack down on piracy and counterfeit goods, the theft of satellite or cable signals, and illegal recording of movies. In terms of intellectual property, the agreement extends the same copyright protection that U.S. creators have at home into the Mexican market. It strengthens patent protection in the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors, including 10 years of protection for biologic drugs.
The agreement establishes ground rules for digital trade. That's something that didn't exist in the old deal, dating from 1994, because it covers things like e-books, videos, music, software and computer games, none of which existed in their current form 24 years ago.
(This point is bad news for Canada! Yankees have long complained that LIE-berals are just as soft on copy right infringements as they are on other types of crime! The Markham Ontari-owe Asia Pacific Mall is notorious for its knock offs of all manner of goods! Worse yet- vendors at Asia Pacific Mall are reputed to have major links to Chinese organized crime gangs- up to and including Chinese Red Army acting on behalf of its govt- which views copy right infringement as a handy way of earning hard currency to fund the Chinese military buildup that is challenging western allies in the Pacific area!)
(LIE-beral disdain for Yankees is so gross they would rather support Chinese criminals than Yankee govt on anything! And LIE-berals scorn Yankee concerns over Cdn national security even as Chinese govt spies worm their way ever deeper into North American society- in search of hard currency and handy Yankee technology! Anybody in possession of facts about Yankee missile and radar programs or the latest facts on stealth technology can make HUGE MONEY selling to China! Yankees want an integrated North American defense for our mutual protection- yet LIE-berals see NOTHING wrong with letting Chinese spies and Muslim terrorists operate freely here!)
3. Labour laws and environmental regulations
The deal also requires companies to respect collective bargaining, which is the process by which trade unions can make labour agreements on behalf of workers, and requires that companies adhere to all applicable labour laws. Specifically, the deal includes rules "to prohibit the importation of goods produced by forced labour, to address violence against workers exercising their labour rights, and to ensure that migrant workers are protected under labour laws."
The agreement also includes obligations by both sides to combat trafficking in wildlife, timber and fish, including protections for marine species like whales and sea turtles and a prohibition on shark-finning.
The deal address issues of air quality and marine litter, although few details of those components have been released.
(Yankees are aware that Mexico is a poverty stricken third world country with a Massive Crime abd corruption problem that renders the country all but ungovernable outside Mexico City! On the other hand- the ONLY thing Canada lacks is will power on the pat of LIE-beral govt!)
(LIE-berals see nothing wrong with being cosy with Chinese spies, Muslim terrorists, organized crime gangs from around the world, along with a motely collection of international scammers! Yankees are just as familiar with Nigerian letter scammers as Canadians- and they are aware that a bunch of Nigerian illegals have just swarmed into Canada to set up shop! Indeed Yankees have long complained about Cdn LIE-beral indifference to the number of Cdn based scammers targeting Yankees!)
4. Duty free limits raised
The deal will also see Mexico raise its so-called "de minimis" threshold to $100 US from $50 previously. That's the amount that Mexicans can import from the U.S. duty free. That issue was a key request of the U.S. Currently, Canada imposes duties on imported goods worth more than $20 US. The U.S., meanwhile, allows its citizens to import $800 US from abroad, penalty free.
5. No automatic 'sunset clause'
From the moment NAFTA renegotiations started last year, U.S. officials pushed for something called a "sunset clause" which is effectively a way for them to push the escape button and force a new deal, if the terms of trade didn't improve to their liking. Canada and Mexico pushed back at that, saying it would cause uncertainty, as investors would be unlikely to spend money to expand plants if they worried the deal could be torn up at any moment, robbing them of access to the U.S. market.
(I suggest that this “sunset clause” is simply another version of the dairy tariff argument- Yankees do not want to be seen trying to give idiot Cdn LIE-berals orders re national security so they pick on other details as a way to pressure idiot Cdn LIE-berals! The FBI and the Marines CAN stand on guard for Canada- but it will be a at price in lost jobs, limited trade and closed borders tob ensure that foreign radicals do not freely enter United States while Yankee hating Cdn LIE-berals look the other way!)
Next steps …
The proposed deal announced Monday is only the framework of one that requires approval by the U.S House of Representatives and Senate before becoming law. The White House hopes to get that ball rolling as early as Friday, when it will submit the formal paperwork for a 90-day review period.
If the White House sticks to that time-frame, it gives Canadian officials less than a week to sign on, or risk the deal moving ahead without them. But it's clear the appetite in Washington would prefer a three-way deal.
"We are better off with all three countries involved, and I hope we will get to that result," the official said.
(In other words- Mexico is recognized for what it is- a basket case that cannot be improved by a new NAFTA deal! In reality Mexico is so wounded that its govt cannot even guarantee to legtally uphold the new copyright laws! But Canada is the nation that Yankees truly WANT to deal with in a sensible way! Canada is a well organized first world nation that is currently suffering under LIE-beral govt! Ontari-owe has just strongly repudiated Wynne-bag LIE-berals and there is strong evidence that other provinces are moving to repudiate federal LIE-berals as well! Cands have seen LIE-beral policy in action and recognize ALL OF IT as a total failure! Yankees KNOW they can work with Canada in sensible ways- if LIE-berals would get out of the way!)
(Yankees NEED Cdn cooperation! For one thing the Cdn border is simply TOO LONG to wall up or patrol in the same fashion as the Mexican border! And of course current Yankee trade patterns are so meshed in with Cdn economy that separating them would be a real headache! Cutting trade ties to Canada would penalize Yankee workers badly- and Trump knows this! Trump also knows where Canada is vulnerable to economic pressure and is applying it as he can! Yankees know that many Cdns are just as uneasy about Muslim terror and the swarms of illegals coming to Canada as Yankees are!)
(Our idiot Boy Justin is simply hoping he can outlast Trump! Our idiot Boy has such hatred for Yankees that he is willing to risk all manner of confusion and tariffs being dumped on Cdn economy just so he can thumb his nose at Trump! Ourt idiot Boy is behaving like a petulant child rather than as the leader of a major nation on the world stage!)
