A giant squid was seen in shallow coastal waters off Japan.

An incredibly rare video shows a giant squid swimming along the marina at Japan's Toyama Bay on Christmas Eve.

A fearless diver swam in close proximity and captured this incredible video of the red-and-white real-life sea monster; giant squid are thought to be the inspiration for the mythological Kraken.

The creature was about 12 feet long, but it is thought that giant squid can grow to about 43 feet in length.

The latest is that a gigantic reptile and a colossal gorilla have also been spotted by the Japanese in Kyoto, as well.

The little guys are kind of tough and chewy....I'm not sure if the bigger ones would be worse.

not if it's prepared and cooked properly.

poor cooking makes them tough and chewy...I thought large squid might be more like octopus which also can be chewy if not prepared properly...although I've never cooked octopus myself so I don't know what it takes to make it chewy.

I like the tentacles bits.

The Greeks do them best ...wrapped in vine leaves.

The Italians and Newfies turn them into rubber bands.
