It’s harvest time and Henry Van Ankum is about to bring in the corn, as he has every fall since 1989.

Corn crops across North America are abundant after farmers reacted to 2012’s high prices by seeding a record amount of land in a year that saw plenty of rain and temperatures that were just right. But this year is also notable for a second reason. The price Mr. Van Ankum’s corn fetches is about 40 per cent lower than last year’s, and he will lose as much as a dollar on every bushel he harvests.

Ethanol subsidies are a waste of tax dollars and ethanol ain't no good for most engines.

Beef, pork, chicken, kangaroo meat as well as pet food will be cheaper from the abundant feed at a lower price.

Will beer prices drop the same way with the record barley crops in Canada?

As for subsidies, Wally, they won't change because the subsidies of $28 an acre predate ethanol and had nothing to do with ethanol.

Not for the farmers who grow the corn and are paid the same lower price per bushel whether it goes for ethanol, feed, oil, corn syrup or milling when delivered to the terminal.

Backwater, Ontario.
Saw a doc last night which stated that a lot of the corn being planted now contains a strong insecticide responsible for bee die offs.

This stuff produced by the Bayer Corp.

One beekeeper moved his hives from near the insecticide corn to an area which had not been planted, and his bees came back from the edge.

Whatever.............no bees no food.............good luck to us.

It's a parasite causing the problem.

The doc made a pretty good case for insecticide , But:

Like I said: "Whatever".

they want to isolate the parasite and deal with it soon. No bees. No food.

A good case could be made for importation of temp. workers to do the work of the bees..................?

Maybe when the last bee falls from a cornflower..........................
