Going to College in Canada, Need LOTS of Clarification

Hello,

I live about one hour from the border and have been interested in going to college in Canada for various reasons (of which I will not delve too deep into right now). But before I do so, I have quite a few questions I need answered.

  1. I understand that I will need a Visa before I can do anything.

    A) Will I need an Immigration Visa or will a Student Visa work? I'll need to be able to get a job, buy (or rent) an apartment/house, and pay for the college I will be attending.

    B) Is there a certain age I need to be before I can register? I'm not 18 yet but I was told it could take up to three years before I'm good to go.
  2. Is the economy in any way similar to the US? How does finding a job/getting paid work?
  3. Will I even be able to get a job in Canada, being a US citizen?
  4. What is the average cost of living in Canada?
These are just a few. I didn't want to give you a whole litany so I started small. Any answers would work, and I'd be highly appreciative.

Thanks,

Matt
