Two farmers have died after falling into a manure pit in Quebec, media reports.
According to Agence QMI, Alain Beaudry, a pig farm owner in Saint-Valerien-de-Milton, Que., fell into the pit while trying to fix the manure pump.
Anthony Lalumiere, 18, tried to rescue his boss but fell into the pit himself, Agence QMI reports. The two men were covered in manure for several minutes.
Emergency services were called around 3:40 p.m., Lapresse reports, and firefighters managed to pull Beaudry and Lalumiere from the pit. They were decontaminated with water and taken to Saint-Hyacinthe hospital where their deaths were confirmed.
Quebec police said the 56-year-old pig farm owner and his employee may have died from exposure to ammonia, Radio Canada
"There was nothing more to do," Saint-Valerien-de-Milton fire department chief Sylvain Laplante told Agence QMI.
