I feel we have enough dead weight with appointed senators at the federal level.....without having appointed members at the provincial level.
First they start with 39 appointed members, 90 elected, that's almost one third of the house.......then should an office become vacant, won't it be simpler to just appoint someone instead of going to the trouble of a By-election??

Naah! I'm definitely voting against that

Do we vote for the local schmuck anyway, or the party?

From what I heard, all parties said if the system goes through, that those positions would have to be won in the same way that local ridings select their candidates.

Still elected by party members, still campaigning to win those votes, and you still get to elect your local member. Only difference is you could actually end up with two MPP's from one area, one being the local schmuck, the other making up the difference in popular vote province wide.

I'm not a party fanatic........I vote for the local schmuck......He's the one representing the district and he's the one with the most to lose if he doesn't do it right

I say abolish those appointed positions (senators) too. Canadians never said they wanted them there. It's the old boys club gone mad it is.

Have you decided which provincial party will get your vote in the Oct. 10 provincial election? New Democrats 41.30 % (95) Progressive Conservative 32.17 % (74) Liberal 20.87 % (4 Green Party 3.91 % (9) Other 1.74 % (4)Total votes: 230

Informal, sure, but people still took the time to vote. There's still hope Anthony Perkins will get the boot.

This should mitigate some concerns about List Members:
Quote:
3: MMP will elect members who represent no one and whom no one’s ever heard of.

False. Those members represent those who voted for their party. They are in the legislature because electors put them there. They are accountable to those electors as a whole.
And note that it the old boys club who are most against electoral reform.

Sheep are dumber than a bag of rocks.

McGuilty is a smirking liar and tax thief.

Tory is unproven as a liar as yet. Howie can play hockey.

Vote Green, Howie or John. Take your pick.

After Tory started making things up just to win, he defeated himself. Rae sunk the NDP in Ontario. So by default who is left to form the government?
If we only had a few cadidates who were interested in the good of the province and people instead of the power and friends, we might change things.

If you all want to watch the Conservative Tories or Tory crash and burn in the Ontario elections tonight go to CTV's live site http://www.ctv.ca/mini/ontarioElection2007/.

I will be playing the violin as the Conservative party is kept down and in their place on the bottom where they belong.

Harper will be shaking in his booties

Ontario got the government it deserves. They'll have absolutely nothing to whine or complain about for 4 years eh. All is well.

Libs may have their majority, but up here, NDP kicked Ramsey's butt.
