At approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 16th a Kingston Police uniform patrol officer was originally dispatched to the end of Biscayne Street, off of Highway 15. A resident had heard a male yelling for help and it appeared to be originating down an embankment near the Cataraqui River.

While attempting to search for the male the officer could still hear and speak to him. The man provided a first name of “Connor,” stated he was stuck in the swamp, and that he was interested in purchasing some drugs. Apparently the male was unaware he was speaking to an officer. Concerned about his location police contacted Kingston Fire and Rescue to attend in the event a water extrication was required.

Both officers and fire personnel made their way down to the waterline in the dark to finally discover the lone man in his underwear sitting in a canoe. Seeing police the male was able to miraculously free himself from the swampy area and was last observed paddling back out towards the river. Having no means to pursue the male, and determining he was no longer in need of assistance, police and fire personnel returned to shore and officers attended the station for poison ivy decontamination.

Anyone with any further information on this matter is welcome to contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 or via email at media@kpf.ca.
