A dog was put down after she ate kibble spiked with antifreeze while going on a walk in Vaughan last month.
Coca, a beagle-pug mix, was out with her owner on Nov. 24 when she stopped and started to eat something by a mailbox on Shawbridge Blvd. near Gidleigh Park Cres., police said.
Soon after, the poor pooch became violently ill and by the next day, she was too weak to even walk.
A veterinarian determined Coca had ingested antifreeze and she was euthanized three days after the poisoning.
A police investigation discovered kibble near the same mailbox and tests showed the presence of anti-freeze.
Police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.
Parents and pet owners are being warned to be extra careful that children and pets aren’t eating anything off the ground.
Meanwhile, Toronto Police also continue to investigate potentially tainted treats left in a Leaside park after a boxer dog became sick on Nov. 30.
Coca had to be put down three days after the poisoning. (York Regional Police handout)
