15-year-old girl shot in the face during domestic assault

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONT. - A teenage girl is in serious condition after being shot in the face during a domestic assault in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was alerted to the shooting shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday after the victim went to Sault Area Hospital for treatment.
An initial police investigation prompted police to close part of Lyons Ave., near an underpass, “to search for evidence,” Const. Troy Miller said.
“We were given information that we needed to go there so we did.”
A police probe is now focused at a two-storey duplex.
A male, 21, was arrested shortly after the shooting, police say.
He is charged with attempted murder, sexual assault, sexual interference and several firearms offences.
His name was not released by police.
Neighbours who spoke with QMI Agency said they've seen many different young people at the duplex.
“I knew something bad was going to happen,” said a woman who didn't want to give her name.
She's a long-time resident, but never encountered a problem until this spring. The woman said she's called police and talked to the landlord about her vetting of tenants.
“I could call the cops every single day,” she said, but noted large gatherings of people outside late at night in the summer stopped with winter's arrival.
“I feel so bad,” the woman said about the shooting victim. “I hope the girl is going to make it.”
