Man charged after child porn posters found in Ottawa park
By Danielle Bell, Ottawa Sun First posted: Friday, November 07, 2014 07:58 PM EST | Updated: Friday, November 07, 2014 08:31 PM EST
Parents were horrified Friday to learn a suspect had been arrested after allegedly leaving child porn posters at a playground and other areas in Ottawa.
"That's really disgusting. That's terrible," said one mom, who was shocked over the disturbing details. She was picking up her kids at the community centre beside the Paul Anka Dr. park where the images were found. "I wouldn't want my kids to see anything like that."
Ottawa police say child pornography images were discovered by passerby on playground pieces and ballpark bleachers along Paul Anka Dr., in south Ottawa, in September.
A second incident followed in October, with child porn pictures found inside an Elgin St. office building.
"He made colour copies of child porn images and posted them on play structures and bleachers," said Ottawa police Sgt. Maureen Bryden, with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
"It appears to be images he printed off the Internet, and made (into) a collage."
Police were able to link the incidents together. They could not recall a similar case.
One of the posters claimed to be looking for girls as young as six, and urged people to get in touch. A phone number was provided.
Investigators do not believe the suspect was actually making child pornography to get the images.
Police arrested a man in connection with the posters on Friday. Cops also searched a suspect's home, seizing a computer and hard drives.
The seized materials will be analyzed to see if there are any illegal images.
The popular Paul Anka Dr. park is near several housing complexes and a community centre.
At the park on Friday, parents couldn't believe disturbing materials were left behind in an area where many children play.
"I go to the park frequently but I haven't heard anything," said one dad, who quickly whisked his two young kids away.
None of the parents the Sun spoke to were aware of the incidents, but glad they didn't stumble onto them.
Nicholas Philion, 29, has been charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography and two counts of make available child pornography.
He remains in custody pending a bail hearing on Saturday.

I'm interested to know if the phone number on the poster was actually his. If so, one would have to question his sanity as it would suggest that he didn't understand that what he was doing was wrong
