Police offer $50Gs reward for help solving 1972 cold case

ORILLIA, Ont. -- Police are offering a $50,000 reward for information that would help solve a 41-year-old murder case.
The body of Yvonne Leroux, 16, was found Nov. 30, 1972, by the side of the road. She died of blunt force trauma.
"Despite the passage of time, investigators in our homicide unit remain actively committed to solving this case," stated a York Regional Police news release Thursday announcing the award. "With the advent of new forensic technology and input from members of the public, investigators are hopeful that they will be able to move the investigation forward."
Leroux's father, Gerry, is 83 years old.
Before he dies, he wants to look into the eye's of his daughter's murderer.
"I'd like to meet him face-to-face and say, 'How do you feel? What kind of heart do you have?'" Leroux told QMI Agency Friday.
Leroux said his daughter got caught up with a bad crowd when she was 15 but then tried to get away from them.
Leroux has not stopped pushing police to find answers.
"To me, this reward was just like a pot of gold dropping on your lap," Leroux said. "I can't thank...the detective enough for what he is doing on my behalf."
Anyone who thinks they have information that will lead to Leroux's killer is asked to contact police.
The $50,000 reward is in effect until March 26, 2015.
