Hi, Nuggler;
I'm referring to your recent post....

Quoting Nuggler
I wish I could "easily" lose 50 pounds.
(dunno what that is in celcius)............
I need to drop 15 Celsius (!) How about we challenge each other...fire each other on?

I start with wanting to loose 2 pounds by July 17th!

Do you have a scale? Set a goal! Don't look at 50 - focus on 5 instead.

Anybody else like to join?? Or just provide some tips and encouragement?

Good for you!! I just came back in... too hot out there. But, if nobody stops me, I'll head to the highschool's running track around 8pm. Not to run, but walk a few laps. The oval measures about 400 meters. Just getting there and back is already 800m!!

Grand plan - and could even work if what I saw in the mirror wasn't the tuck and roll that wasn't there before the accident, the heart thing, the meds and the fortieth birthday....

I'm back. Probably only about 4k. Had my daughter with me and she kind of pooped out along the way.

FOUR KM in that short time!!!! Well, you are probably barely half my age!

I will try to walk 3x around the track, plus there and back = 2km for the next 10 days!

I think any kind of activity is good. Unfortunately I walked 60k one weekend in 2006, and was so damn sick of training for it I completely stopped afterward.

That is a very good idea! I think, if I would cut out my fourth meal after supper... snacks, I could loose some weight, but it is so damn hard!! I already keep myself on a short leash, by not having icecream in the fridge. But then I find a waffle or two, or some cookies, or even a jam toast between 10pm and midnight. Those are absolute unnecessary calories that pack themselves as fat around the waist, because I don't exercise afterwards.

So, here are 2 things already I can and will do for the next 10 days:
a] no food after 6pm
b) walk 2km/day

That was probably not so good. What happened to your muscles? Do they turn to flap?

I have been lazy this past year, and I can tell the muscles get weak and weaker. I hate getting the flabby upper arms of older people, so I got my weights out again and lift them at least 12 times/day. Also, when I read about the old man (76) climbing Mt. Everest, I started an ambition of walking up my stairs 10 times/day, which is at least 10ft, times 10 = 100ft/day. Unfortunately, right now I am 400ft behind.

I know what you mean by being lazy this year, I have been the same way. I didn't play ringette this past winter because there isn't ringette here in Lloyd. And I don't really have any summer sports here either.
As for my goals, well I am good with short term things but really I have always wanted to run a marathon... so maybe a long term goal would be to do a half marathon by next July...
Just typing that makes me think of all the long run Sundays ahead of me... which is probably why I have never been able to make myself do it, so ok it's set, a half marathon by next July!
And loon I will take you up on your challenge for sure.
and also for my next 10 days, I will drink all 8 of my daily glasses of water!

Aaww... you are excused! But mild exercise is good for you. I knew a guy some years ago who had had a triple or quadruple bypass. He told me, every morning he was able to put both feet on the floor he would say, "hallelujah... I'm going to make it another day". He was an active golfer, and also walked several km every morning. He is one year my senior. He was not overweight at all.

Oh no.... don't remind me of drinking water!!! I'm having such a hard time to drink all that water. I should go and get myself a glass right now.

Half a marathon is how many km? Maybe Kreskin would like to join you... ask him.

Set your sight about half as high as you'd like and go at it twice as long. Once you get into a regimen, your body sets up to metabolize for it. If you have to stop, all that muscle turns to slush - wa-aa-ay too fast because the appetite never seems to quit. It is very true that you can become a slave to your body. Make it a gentle master.

Try this....

Thank you, Wolf, for such a thorough program. I'm disqualified already... it only goes up to age 60!

I think for now I'll stick to my own program tailored to my likes, like walking, gardening, stairs, toe touches, weight lifting. Later I might add some light Yoga exercises.

So far, I did good for today... I walked 2km tonight, did gardening, and did some stairs, and lifted weights.

And I almost didn't snack after supper! I needed just one little sweet treat... I had 2 pieces of crystallized ginger!! Ginger is good for me, it helps to thin the blood.

Wolf, would you be interested to be our scorekeeper, perhaps make up something like a chart where the participants get listed and their aims and achievements registered?
Something like this, only in columns;
Loon for the next 10 days - daily: 2km walk, no food after 6pm, Goal: loose 2 pounds
Hazmart same thing? ask her.

We would report to you after 10 days how successful we have been. Then we start the next time span.
I hope Nuggler will join.
Or have you any other suggestions how we can keep track and get encouragement? Just knowing I spoke my aim out loud, made it public here, has helped me stay focussed and go for that walk.
