Stumpy the duck was born last year at the Warrawee Duck farm in the New Forest in Hampshire.

Nothing unusual about that - except that stumpy was born with four legs.

He lost his fourth leg after getting it caught on a fence, and now his third leg has fallen off after turning black.

So now he's a regular duck.

Stumpy is a Cherry Valley duck and can live for up to 10 years.

He's Stumpy by name - and now he's stumpy by nature.

A duck which made headlines around the world when he hatched with four legs now has just two after losing both his spares in separate incidents.

He lost one extra limb when he caught it on a fence at the Warrawee Duck Farm in the New Forest and ripped it off.

But now the 14-month-old drake has become a regular two-legged duck after his third leg turned black and fell off.

Two legs good, four legs bad: Stumpy seems comfortable with the normal complement of limbs

The only remaining clues to his former condition are two small stumps.

Farm owner Nicky Janaway, 44, said: "A couple of weeks ago we noticed Stumpy's spare leg had started to change colour.

"We kept an eye on it but it got more and more black.

"When I got Stumpy out of bed at 6am his leg was still there, but in the afternoon it was gone.

"He has probably caught it on something while walking about the farm.

"He isn't in pain and and he's completely oblivious to the fact that he now just has two legs.

"Where his spare legs once were there are now just stumps - so he really is Stumpy by name and Stumpy by nature."

I don't need all these: Stumpy as a duckling

Mrs Janaway could hardly believe her eyes when the duckling hatched at her farm in February last year.

But despite the rare mutation Stumpy was deemed to be completely healthy.

Mrs Janaway said: "It was when I picked him up to check him that I noticed something different about him. "I started counting his legs and couldn't believe it as I kept going - one, two, three, four."

Cherry Valley ducks typically live for around ten years.

Mrs Janaway has run Warrawee Duck Farm with her husband Paul for around four years.

The farm has around 3,000 ducks at any one time.
