Police save man from choking on his stash

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Pot can be hazardous to your health — especially if you try to swallow your stash.
Police in Wichita, Kansas, report pulling over a driver and noticed the young man was apparently choking on a large baggie. Police spokesman Gordon Bassham says officers tried the Heimlich maneuver but it didn't work.
As the man was passing out, Bassham says one of the officers reached into his throat and pulled out the plastic bag.
The 20-year-old was arrested for pot possession and a passenger was busted, too.

Sounds to me like the most dangerous part of marijuana is the bag it come in.

A friend of mine had a dog who ate a large quantity of marijuana. The dog became catatonic so he took it to the Vet, who said the dog would be fine after a while. Just keep him comfortable until the marijauna passed through his system. He also said if the dog had ate that much tobacco, he would have died.

MARIJUANA MYTHS

12. No one has ever died of a marijuana overdose

This is true. It was put in to see if you are paying attention. Animal tests have revealed that extremely high doses of cannabinoids are needed to have lethal effect. This has led scientists to conclude that the ratio of the amount of cannabinoids necessary to get a person intoxicated (i.e., stoned) relative to the amount necessary to kill them is 1 to 40,000. In other words, to overdose, you would have to consume 40,000 times as much marijuana as you needed to get stoned. In contrast, the ratio for alcohol varies between 1 to 4 and 1 to 10. It is easy to see how upwards of 5000 people die from alcohol overdoses every year and no one EVER dies of marijuana overdoses.

So someone would have to smoke tens of thousands of doobies to kill themselves. I've never heard of anyone dying from a marijuana overdose.

Actaully I have OD'd in a sense on hash....you don't die ...Several times smoking real strong hash in Montreal I expierenced this sort of bed spin , nausea if i move, wait till it passes nightmare. It occorred to all of us from time to time.....but you did have to smoke too much.....usually took about half hour for it to go away and it leaves as fast as it came on...bingo you just feel real good all of a sudden...there was this sort of urban legend linked to this in montreal that it was opium cured hash and it was the opium that actually got to you....i've had similiar expierence shooting heroin, so maybe thats where the legend comes from.....

that being said i want to start a new thread on a certain weed related topic....gonna see if i can find links to prove a point....
cheers

Seriously, i started when i was 13 and just one day quit at 37..haven't smoked since...i would usually start everday with a toke....i know this sounds impossible but seriously in all those years without exageration i bet 30 days of them were straight.....
it would be months or years at time before a dry spell in finding some....
I do have my own ideas on pot damage...the thread i wanted to start was based on what i call weed crankies....sort of the mood swing constant tokers get when they don't have any.....It's not like you gotta be hospitalized or something but i'm sure big time users if they are honest know what I'm talking about.

Oh yeah..mind me asking Mikey how old r u?

Doesn't it say on the bag, "This is not a toy"?

Some people are just naturally dumb. Pot may be used as a bit of a crutch.

NAY-TAH-WAUSH, Minn. - If you're going to sell marijuana, you probably shouldn't try to sell it to the sheriff.

Mahnomen County Sheriff Brad Athman said Tuesday he was motorcycling while off-duty over the weekend when a youth tried to sell him marijuana — not once, but twice — on the main street of Nay-Tah-Waush in northwestern Minnesota.

Athman said the youth tried to wave him over twice, and signaled that he had marijuana for sale by placing his thumb and fingers to his mouth in a smoking gesture.

Athman said he had a full-face helmet on, so he was unrecognizable.

The sheriff said he called a deputy who arrested the 17-year-old, and that the teen had 11 marijuana cigarettes in his pocket.

Athman said the teen became “very upset” when he discovered he had tried to sell drugs to the sheriff.

The youth appeared in court Tuesday on a felony charge of attempted sale of a controlled substance. He remained in custody in the juvenile detention center in Moorhead pending his next court appearance. Prosecutors plan to seek to charge him as an adult.

DocDred

I'm on the downward side of 60...

But hey man....er...dude or dudette...just a toke or two in the morning and I'm twenty-one again...

I don't imbibe pot or alcohol as a crutch a habit or a "vacation without ever leavin the farm.."

I have noticed over the years though that the number of times one see's folk getting into car wrecks and violent behaviour...and alcohol is cited as a contributing factor...far outnumbers any similar citations of pot being "behind" the anti-social behavior....

I'd rather not have the pilot of my airplane stoned and certainly wouldn't like him/her drunk but at the end of the day...I have fewer concerns with pot smokers and their behavior than I do with alcoholics...and their behavior...

Maybe it's just me and I'd never recommend the pastime as a substitute for jonesing on life..but a toke or two seems to allow me to concentrate better and inserts an additional padding of tolerance and patience in my day to day...

Last time I puffed was months ago....don't care if I ever do again...but wouldn't turn it down if being passed around either...

It's dude Mikey, recently Zan pointed out to me she is dudette...ha love this place.

You know i pretty much agree with what ya said above. In fact yup I'm with ya on it.
Booze when used to get high is dangerous as hell. Most of whats in the can is said to be there for something they did drunk...I hate drunks, Hated myself when i was one as well.
Weed is wierd, on one hand the occaisional puffer can go through life and only claim benefit from useing.
then people with addicted personality find it can consume them as well. Although the effects are pretty much the worse the guy is gonna do is eat his way to size 50 jackets...Everyday use does in fact tend to lay waste a lot of plans, if you know what i mean....
I read somewhere there is this Pygmy tribe in mother Africa where they all toke everyday, but only after all work is done which is usually round 4 pm.

By the by...you are a great read
DAVE
