America is broke. This isn't America's fight.

Let Canada lead the way. How about a new era of Pax Canadica? I like the sound of that. America needs to mind its own business.
We more than pull our fair share of the weight.

Canada punches above its weight. But that's not the point.

It's not the point because it doesn't mean much when the heavy weight decides that he has retired. America is through with foreign involvements outside of North America. If Obama gets heavily involved in this Arab mess, it will be used against him.

America has no money to spend outside the country. What few dollars we have left would be better spent teaching Mexican kids to speak English.

There's a new attitude among American conservatives. Some American leftists also recognize that the Party is over. Let the chips fall where they may.

The Americans are probably the only ones that can coordinate this effort successfully . They also have the ships with planes in place so this effort can take place very quickly.

The only thing I wonder about is, are the Americans going to learn french or are the French going to learn English ? They are both going to be flying up there, so if they can't communicate, they might start shooting at each other (I know I'm a sinic) !!!

''America is broke. This isn't America's fight.''

40% of Libya's oil fields are owned by wealthy American elitists. This is why the government is so interested in getting involved even though it is of no concern to the average American. As always, socialize the cost of protecting the interests of the elites while privatizing the profits.

You want access to cheap oil? Don't forget that a large part of the problem has been Americans propping up various tin pot dictators in the area when it suited them and now all that interfering is coming home to roost.

I assume everyone realizes that in order to establish the NFZ it will be necessary to take out Libyan air defenses. Libyans will die as a result.

And EVERYONE should get their hands dirty. If they want in this "No Fly Zone" party... they have to bomb too. No hanging back and blaming others for the collateral damage.

Hot Off the Press....

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday that a U.N. no-fly zone over Libya "requires certain actions taken to protect the planes and the pilots, including bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems."

Ya Ya Ya... we get that.

What does that have to do with Libya? We were the first and only ones to dope slap Gadaffi back in the 80's.

Besides, Canada has their troops all over the place and is the 14th Largest Arms exporter. You aren't that innocent.

Never said we were innocent but we are a net oil exporter while the US must import oil to operate and the republicans don't want our oil sands oil.

Well that is your opinion. I won't even call you a war monger. :)

But they are going to have to do more than fly around in circles. They'll have to bomb.
They will, and more. "All necessary measures" is a broad scope.

Sounds like more than just a no fly zone, according to the reports I heard over the supper hour here the Security Council has authorized any action short of a land invasion, and it sounds like a lot of people are going to get their hands dirty with this one. HMCS Charlottetown is in Malta now, the Dutch HMS Tromp is in the area, and these are primarily anti-aircraft vessels. If the French and the British can get their carrier forces into position quickly (they have one carrier each) maybe they won't be too late to stop Mad Dog Moammar's slaughter of his own civilians. He's going to move as quickly as possible now though, to get into Bengasi before the international force can get organized to stop him, then he'll try to make it as difficult as possible to identify his forces among the rebels and civilians. It's going to get much uglier than it already is.
