Lately there have been quite a few posts that were

1. Redundant because threads on the same topic existed already
2. Nothing but spam
3. Nothing but trolling

I think it is time that any proposed new thread is to be approved by one of the moderators. (With the exception of THIS new thread - HAHA).

Not to mention the fact that poisionous creeps like RITEWAYCA should be nipped in the bud before they can contaminate this forum. I have seen posters banned for far less.

What do you think?

Into which of those categories does this one fit?

lone wolf, I know that anything and everything I say rubs you in the wrong way.

Be that as it may.

But go and look at the threads: Every single one is contaminated by this troll RITEWAYCA.

Trolling.
But YJ does have a point. Often there are multiple threads on a topic.
For sticklers to detail. one might think the thread could have been posted in the proper forum. This isn't news....

Rubs? I see sarcastic wit is unfamiliar to you.... Grumps are often that way.

lone wolf, my new post could have gone on any forum. RITEWAYCA contaminated pretty much all categories with his/her nonsense.

If you're no better than Riteway, by all means do it. He'll be banned. Please DO IT....

That's why there is the 'report' option for spam. I've used it against ritewayca already today. be patient. I'm sure that account will be terminated soon enough if it's not already. Th mods are busy enough as it is.

I must not be reading enough. I've never heard of Riteway!
I guess I won't be "seeing" Riteway. I see the name is in "red" at the bottom of the page so he's gone.

There are a couple of new threads this morning whose total uselessness is supporting my contention of the necessity of editorial oversight.

We're just playing catchup to the de-editorialization of most news services.

"Riteway" snuck under the SPAM fence with 27 posts. Andem is playing at
making it more difficult for those like Riteway to get onto this Forum. Lots
of changes will be coming soon, and many of them are very-very cool.

I don't want to let too much out'a the bag here, as it's not my place, but lots
of new stuff is coming down the pipe, and things like the visit from Riteway
will happen less & less.

The Mod's are here when they can be, and that's not all of the time. Life does
interfere with the time free to be online. If a Mod had to approve every new
Thread before it made it onto the Forum, this would be a very different
place to play in for everyone. Careful what you wish for, 'cuz you
might actually get it. I don't think I'd want to be involved in such
an oppressive atmosphere as that, & it would be oppressive.

Anna just gave the mods a list of all the threads about the Gulf oil mess and the mods amalgamated the threads. Is there anything stopping any of you from doing the same?
Instead of doing like Avro did and post a pic of a can of Spam in a dozen threads, it is just as easy to click the report button at the top right of posts and bring it to the mods attention that way.
Trolling happens. Don't bother with it.

L Gilbert, pressing the 'report' button is like snitching. It is low, it is a complete admission of incompetance of dealing with a bit of adversity, sign of sickeningly thin skin and the inability of coping with being offended.

I used once. I am ashamed of it now, I will never do it again.

How else do you expect the mods to know there's a spammer on board?

Avro effectively doubled the amount of clean-up needed to scrub that Spammer
off of the Forum. That didn't help, and that's just less time available for other
things that may need attention.

Many Threads on the B.P. Oil Spill fiasco have been Merged, as have many
Threads on the Abortion debate, and some of the Israel/Palestine Threads
have been Merged when it was clear that they where truly the same Topics
and not different directions (tangents) of a common Topic, which is the
case with several of them at this point.

When Trolling takes place, Report it & then ignore it & the Member who's
doing the Trolling, and it'll get cleaned up when the reported post is discovered.
Reporting Trolling, and then quoting it, and adding in much reciprocal Trolling
leading to a pissing match really complicates the clean-up effort. "A" Troll can
be addressed, but eight reciprocating Trolls in the same Thread equals a whole
lot of Edited & Removed posts (& we most likely will not catch everything) which
is very time consuming and inefficient. Now how do you address eight Trolls in
the same Thread? One repeating can be Timed-Out, but eight? Not cool and
it doesn't help the Thread, or the health of the Forum as a whole.

lone wolf wondered:

Is it my responsibility as a driver to alert police about speeders? Or illegal parkers?

The moderators here are the police. And just as the police they should act PROactively, rather than REactively.

And just as police should not and can not rely on snitches, neither should the moderators of this forum.

The 'report' button should be permanently disabled, since it is nothing but an extra weapon given to the thin-skinned noodle-spined weak-kneed mimosas.

So if you saw someone commit a rape, you'd go hide and not say a word. Fascinating.
If you ignore an offense, you condone it by your inaction against the offense.

New threads had to be approved on Canada.com. It was a real drag for people wanting to discuss something new that was happening in the here and now and not 5 days later or more when the moderator got around to approving it. It was a ridiculous thing. I would truly hate to see that brought here.

You should be ashamed of this post. The report button is there for a very good reason. Instead of starting a whole thread for reporting people like Riteway, all you had to do was hit the report button and type in SPAM!
BTW - it is yours, mine and everyone's responsibility to report speeding or wreckless or impaired drivers to the police. You could save a life.
