100 aboard sinking S. Korean naval ship

March 26, 2010

SEOUL—A South Korean naval vessel with more than 100 aboard was sinking on Friday in waters near North Korea and Seoul was investigating whether it was hit in a torpedo attack by the North, South Korean media said.
Broadcaster SBS said many South Korean sailors on the stricken vessel were feared dead.
South Korea’s YTN TV network said the government was investigating whether the sinking was due to a torpedo attack by the North, and Yonhap news agency said the Seoul government had convened an emergency meeting of security-related ministers.
Yonhap also reported a South Korean navy ship firing towards an unidentified vessel to the north.
North Korea in recent weeks has said it was bolstering its defences in response to joint South Korean-U.S. military drills that were held this month.

Suspected torpedo attack from the North on a South Korean vessel is what I am hearing on the news right now.

This should play out interesting, I can't imagine that South Korea will just let this pass if it turns out to be true that their ship was attacked.

South Korea must declare war on North Korea and American forces can invade North Korea and make all of Korea free according to their standards

to late, if the SK vessel was in international waters, the DPRK just did.

If China sunk an American warship in international waters how long do you think it would take America to send the nuclear packed bombers to China?

It's an act of war and if South Korea overlooks this then North Korea will march in and take back the country

A long, long time. Discretion is the better part of valour.

No they don't, there was never a peace treaty signed, just a cease fire declaration. If N. Korea sunk the ship, then the treaty has been broken. Now it is up to S. Korea to decide what to do.

South Korea is already underwriting North Korea. It is just their rouge Province of Cheap. They don't need much to eat there and have no real defenses.

Act of war? The war between the two Koreas never ended. What we have now is an armistice. Over the last 60 years there have been numerous shooting incidents between the two Koreas. This is just another in a long list. Nothing much will come of it.

We have to remember that war creates jobs

Really? Spending on the military is one of the least useful ways to create jobs, primarily due to the fact that money spent leaves you with nothing useful to show for it. Building a new road, school, or hospital does a good deal more for society than buying guns and tanks.
