JLM there is a something special about being the best at something. If you win the silver. it means that somebody beat you. I'm sure that we will win more gold medals in these games but it is nice to get the first one out of the way
I think they are all winners, Juan. When first, second or third place is decided by a matter of 1/100th of a second in some sports, the very fact that athletes make it to the top ten is something to celebrate.
I guess when those racers compete against each other all
the time, (because the olympics is really just another
race on their schedule for the year), and they either win
or lose by fractions of a second all the time, (or fall),
those 'tiny' fractions become large in their lives.
The important thing is 'them' and how they think about
themselves and each other, and not really how we think
about them, we are just onlookers, they are the workers
and grinders, often racing in pain, with injuries and
race through them, without us even knowing.
Their eye is always on the prize, and they love what they
do, and love to win and compete.
A couple of those downhill skiers have had 6 knee surguries,
I can't imagine 'even' one, and they keep coming back to
race again, amazing.
Haven't watched any today, but I was listening to the news. Kind of disappointed. Olys seem to be a near wash-out...... literally. Maybe we'll lose one of our nicknames - "The Great White North".
they will be fine, have to re arrange some of the alpine
events, but they will get them in, not a wash out at all,
and the people visiting vancouver, have mild comfortable
weather to walk around and visit the different venues.
The indoor opening ceremonies were great, many athletes
claimed they didn't have to shivver through it, as they
