'Special' EI benefits for self-employed to begin in 2011 - thestar.com
This is a little late for me, though. But it'll help lots more people who need to take some compassionate leave or sick leave from their business.
From what I understand, self-employed people will need to pay in for a year before they collect, and once they've opted in, can't opt out.
Really, what it will do is allow for self-employed people to have parental leave, that's about the only thing that can be planned like that.
But it is a good thing.
dunno what its good for, they will make it so there is something stupid like a 60,000 dollar limit, so if you make 65,000 you won't be eligible. kinda like they do now for the company man, lots of people i know in alberta got denied cuz they made to much. even tho they haven't worked in 6+ months...
