It has to be the only place in the western world that put an order - "Ontario Keep it Beautiful" - on its license plate.

Is that an old plate?. All I see nowadays have 4 letters preceeding the numbers. But I just looked at one of my old ones (that has three letters) and beneath it says "yours to discover". I guess there has been a bit of an idoligical shift since I bade that province goodbye.

...Very old. The first "perma-plate". There was a period when it was 3 and 3 - numbers first

It can't be that old. When did people start putting stickers on them to indicate year?

1973.... Forgot about them. The very first "five-year"/permanent plates had 73 stamped in the lower left

You mean they got more. I thought all the assholes in Ontario moved to B.C.
The police must have better things to do than issue tickets for smoking. The truck is also his home when he is on the road and smoking in the home isn't banned yet. Too bad the police were not permitted to put as much effort into fining all the politicians and senior bureaucrats that steal from the taxpayers on a regular basis.

I wouldn't be too quick to discount that yet, consider someone who has a home office where they entertain clients as my brother does, that is where he conducts the sales part of his part time business. Though he abhors smoke I'm sure there are others who don't. This is the nanny state's back door, (or front) into your home, trust me, it'll happen sooner rather than later. Tyranny is a happenin', we just don't see it yet because it comes, as it does quite often, in the guise of good intentions.

It's about time the police did their job.

Lets all send them a box of donuts

Ontario used that slogan on the license plate at least into the 80s and I believe also into the 90s.

I thought that was what they set up the long gun registry for. Those bureaucrats can enter your home without a warrant any time to see if you are storing your guns and ammo according to the law. Not to be confused with safe. The RCMP can't even do that for known drug dealers.

Ontarians are anal because they don't deal with things and let them get worse, among them being their stale provincial police force.

The law is meddlesome (typical of Ontarians) and any cop that enforces it is going for an easy kill--particularly so considering he was the only one in the cab (i.e. the law is supposedly meant to protect others from harmful smoke inhalation--heh, heh, ever take a walk in downtown TO during rush hour?).

Still, a nice variation from the usual, "you didn't stop to absolute zero at that deserted intersection in the middle of nowhere...as I could clearly see from my cleverly hidden police cruiser a quarter km away."

...Of course the cop could've always been chasing after the many maniacs committing serious and dangerous traffic violations on the 401 every minute of every day...but that would be competent. Can't have that.

Sorry, before allowing what? Tyranny, dude, it has already arrived. Hope your nanny is okay though.

Uh, yeah, but that wasn't enough for them , we now have neo-prohibitionists to deal with. Tobacco and alcohol are the next things to be abolished, look what is going on in NS. You ain't never gonna see legalisation of pot, never mind de-criminalisation if you were ever hoping for it. The stasi aren't a comin', they're here, and they want to make sure we have no way of fighting back.

I couldn't agree more with the view here on Ontario cops.

The last time I ever had a run-in with cops is when I was walking towards a taxi stand somewhat tipsy; he verbally harassed me and tried looking up my personal details (I live in Berlin). What a waste of 15 minutes of my time. Whenever I'm in that town and have any suspicion of a cop looking to harass me, I press the audio record button on my mobile phone.

Well, not exactly off topic, but I find Ontario cops are condescending and generally out of place. A kind of group of the high school bullies who never made far enough to university or some kind of academia.
