Obama hit a home run with his Egypt speech. I watched some of it. The speech in Egypt may turn out to be a seminal moment, like Nixon’s visit to China or Sadat’s visit to Israel.

There were plenty of cheers during Obama’s speech. I think he struck the right balance between extending hand of cooperation, while at the same time condemning terrorism. The reaction for his speech was mixed in both Muslim world and in Israel, which tells me that the got the balance just right.

I don’t see his speech leading to the Middle East settlement, that is too much to hope for. However, if that leads to a thaw in relations between USA and Muslim world, that would be a start. It would be a big change from Bush era, when USA and the Muslim world regarded each other with suspicion, mistrust and outright hostility.

I think Obama scored a huge foreign policy success with his speech.

For you information Yukon Al Qaeda doesn’t like Obama. Al Jawahiri released a statement yesterday which was highly critical of Obama. My hope is that this will start a dialogue between USA and moderate Muslim countries such as Egypt, Jordan etc. During Bush years the attitude was outright hostility.

Call me a pessimist but....

The best Obama can hope for is to convince gov'ts of muslim countries to actively reduce the influence of terrorist or anti-western organizations within their own countries. Either Obama will be successful, or not. I'm inclined to believe that most middle-eastern leaders pay lip service to whomever is in charge in the U.S., and really make little progress in changing the attitudes of their citizens. Because that's what it's really about, I think. If you want to defeat so-called "terrorism", you have to stop the flood of young men joining terrorist groups, you have to change their minds. A tough challenge if you ask me.

Obama's apologies in Europe yielded absolutely nothing. No more sympathy for the United States. No more actual military help.

Anyone who thinks that his grovelling to the king of Saudi Arabia will bring lower gas prices is an idiot. Anyone who thinks that kissing the ring or hand of this homophobe will bring more piece in the Middle East is even a bigger idiot.

Obama, by now, clearly shown to the world that he is a weak leader, totally unfitting to be the President of the United States. Sadly, America will pay dearly for putting this pretender in the White House.

He is following the trend set by Carter and Clinton: ALWAYS BLAME AMERICA FIRST!!

Yukon, Obama did it because it was the right thing to do. I doubt he expected more military help. You are saying that USA should be nice to other countries only if there is some financial, material gain for USA in it. That is totally the wrong approach. Bush followed that approach (if you are not for us, you are against us) and USA was scorned worldwide as a result.

Obama has managed to generate plenty of goodwill towards USA. It is unclear if that will lead to any concrete gains for USA. But being admired, respected is better than being universally despised (as USA was during Bush years).

Anyone who thinks that his grovelling to the king of Saudi Arabia will bring lower gas prices is an idiot.

That is only your opinion, that he groveled at the feet of Saudi King. And you are right, it was only the far right who said that ‘groveling’ in front of the Saudi king (as you put it) should lead to a decrease in oil prices, nobody else was expecting that (and oil prices have come down, from their peak of 140 $ a barrel, but it had nothing to do with Saudi king).

Obama, by now, clearly shown to the world that he is a weak leader, totally unfitting to be the President of the United States.

That is what the far right says, Yukon, we know all the epithets by heart by now. Obama is a Fascist, a Nazi, a Communist, a Socialist, a Muslim terrorist and so on.

"Even if they give sweet and beautiful talks to the Muslim nation ... that will not create a change," said Khamenei, Iran's most powerful figure with the final say on all matters of state. "Nothing will change with speeches and slogans." -

Eagle great day to you, Khamenei, Iran's most powerful figure is the biggest primitive right wing ignorant being. If Galileo were living in his country, he would order Galileo’s head brought to him in punishment for not believing fanatically in biblical mythology.

The man is not any divine energy, and many young Iran’s are every day suffering from suppressetion of human rights.

The loser makes me want to throw up, when I hear the hypocrite telling the world that talk means nothing while change is the only goal.

You can be sure that khamenei wants to see the west change into submissive beings while the illiterate stupid f wants to create a nuclear-armed Iran so he can exterminate the Jews. No,..................................change must first come from that stupid mentality.
Muslims are great people but stupid f like this loser make the world a dangerous place to live in.

He's a simple minded prick who can't string two words together without a teleprompter. Whenever the ruleing class farts Obamas lips move. On his watch billions will die, just because it pays to kill. He perfectly suited to be the President of the United States of America, he has no conscience, he is morally and ethically empty and he dances a mean jig.
Someone mentioned the flood of young men joining terrorist groups. Whatelse will they work at now that the depressions on for the long dirty haul. Our little boys and girls will gleefully stuff themselves in shinny new uniforms and die for the masters or they'll starve in the streets. **** Obama.

That is one country, EagleSmack. And that country has been hostile to USA for decades now. It remains to be seen how other countries receive the speech. The speech got rousing applause several times and so far the reaction has been encouraging (Iran notwithstanding). It remains to be seen how it plays out.

Great day to you Green Fish, me too I thought that Obama offered the olive branch to the Muslim world quit eloquently.

Obama has the ability to motivate and move the human soul. I like people like him.

So does Pamela Anderson. The olive branch may be offered via the drone in your nieghbourhood but I imagine the average Muslim is not as impressed with the peace process.

Obama's grovelling to the Middle East will yield as much goodwill as his grovelling to Europe in general and FRance in particular yielded.

Absolutely zilch. Nada. Nothing. Zero.

But the sycophants and the acolytes will glow with delight. Their Messiah delivered the words, totally meaningless, though, they may be. Just like his election promises.

Could the paid audiance have some bearing on the rousing applause. I to might be moved to public adulation with so much military aid money in my pocket. Nothing remains to be seen.

Good day D B, None of Americas past should be blamed on Obama, as much as you don't like Obama and that is your right, I despise equally some of this archaic losers in the Middle East whose concept of life is totally back words. Cave mentality is toxic.
