Oh whatever... send her home. The Dutch will deal with this just fine. It's pretty obvious she's some kind of nut.

....She came from the Netherlands as a refugee.

Her refugee status has been denied, and although her permanent residence status is likely to be approved,(at a later date), she will be deported next Monday.

Does her colour or race have anything to do with this ??

There's a few possibilities here, she could be lying, she could be grossly exaggerating or she could be delusional- OR there's about a 0.0001% chance she could be telling the truth. Holland is a pretty small country, but if she was quiet she could probably find a place to live where he wouldn't find her.

Something seems off kilter about her story. I don't know that I'd put much stock in it. Mind you, with her being here and married to a Canadian, and likely going to get her paperwork in the end, I don't think I'd see a need to waste a seat on a plane to send her home either.

Well she isn't married to a Canadian any more. I say the Dutch can keep their lunatics - send her back.

It reads like she fled an abusive ex-husband in the Netherlands, came here, and married a Canadian after landing in 2000.

In one thread you claim...

Besides, it's only a bad idea because the government and police are a bunch of savages. In a real democracy it would be perfectly acceptable, even preferable.

So I guess it's just the Canadian Gov't and Toronto Police that you believe to be 'savages'?

And the Police and Gov't of the Netherlands is more moderate and capable of protecting this women?

Sounds like this woman has some pretty real fears about being returned to the Netherlands.

Geez Snott, if I didn't know better, I'ld say you sound an awful lot like some spoiled little white boy there.

Wow. Pretty cold sounding group here. Are you all so certain that she wasn't being abused? It sounds like none of you have ever known an abused woman before. If her ex is waiting for her, he already knows she is coming. The police won't do anything in this country until something happens either. You'll all have a lot of egg on your face if she is sent back and her ex is successful. I believe her.

It doesn't matter whether she is to be believed or not, her assertion that she is safer in Canada is ridiculous. She isn't a political refugee. The warrant for her argument is too weak.

First of all this story has way to little details..

Are the children Canadian ?

Are the claims Confirmed by the RCMP ?

She says the name was given to the police was it confirmed ?

Bad reporting to start with in the printed version.. No time for the video..

I'd rather err on the safe side and let her stay than rely on a maybe. But then, I have a heart. The CIC has no heart, no brains.

Well the issue with this is that will this influence people to do the same. If the CIC change their opinion now, there is a more than likely case in the near future which will happen the same. It's a behavioural economics concept, if one group of person cheats - it will most likely happen again with another case.

I also agree that stating that the dutch police will not do anything is a very weak statement if she wants a accelerated review on her immigration status.

I agree. But, if the fat, lazy, stupid, heartless CIC would get off its fat, lazy, stupid a$$ and actually investigate and USE its powers for something decent for a change, things like what you say might not happen.
Besides, what the heck's the harm in letting her stay? I'd rather let her stay than the people the gov't say they've been trying to get rid of for decades. (I wrote a few of their names down somewhere in a thread).

Why? The RCMP sits on its a$$ till something happens even if they are notified that something will happen.

I agree with you in the way that CIC can be heartless and she's just another file in their computers. Maybe for such a case a accelerated review on her immigration is status is appropriate providing papers/proof that she was infact married with this man... I'm also very suprised the Netherlands Canadians Ambasador was not mentioned whatsoever in this news artcle

abused, hell yes. A bunch of hired hit men waiting on her and willing to collect despite the calls to police and 'naming names'? No. That's a bit far fetched.

And you're wrong... threatening to kill someone here gets police attention (as I'm positive it does in the Netherlands too). They don't sit around waiting for something to happen if threats have been uttered.

She doesn't look or sound like a nutbar to me. I thought she seemed frightened and depressed in that little video. I'd say let her stay for the 90 days or however long it takes for the permanent resident status process to be worked out. I don't understand how, if she's currently married to a Canadian, that doesn't give her any rights to stay in this country. I know nothing about the law in this area, but it seems pretty dumb, not to mention heartless, to bust up a family that way. If I lived in Halifax, I think I'd be prepared to hide her and her family in my basement for however long it takes our lunatic officialdom to come to its senses. At least, I hope I would. There *is* a place for civil disobedience.
