Wonder why it is criminals somehow manage to keep their weapons. So far there is no mention of turning in weapons already out there, but how far can that be behind, at least long guns mostly are not registered. Obama is starting to equip. the military for riot control.

I think this is a little paranoid.

I have no doubt some of the Democrats would love to ban anything more lethal than a slingshot.......but the Clinton years proved such actions are absolutely disasterous for your majority in Congress. Remember, Representatives sit for only two years.......a gun ban would be very fresh in the voters' minds......and the Dems could say "bye-bye" to their Congressional majority in the House.

Not a priority for them.

BTW, me, a good law-abiding Canuck, would lose 6 guns in that ban.

One (hopefully) will never "need" a so-called "assault rifle", but one should exercise their right to keep and bear.

I disagree on the first statement.......it depends wether you are defending yourself against run-of-the-mill murderers, or the government......

The second statement is factually incorrect. The Second Amendment was added when the Congress refused to accept the Constitution without a Bill of Rights.....immediately after the American revolution: it was included to ensure that the People always had at hand the means to resist tyranny.....in other words, it can be argued that "assault weapons" are the only weapons protected under the amendment. Indeed, in US vs Miller (1936, I believe) the Supreme Court threw out Miller's appeal (he was convicted of possession of a sawed-off shotgun) because the weapon concerned was not a military weapon.

It is a shame that they have to ban anything, those so called assault rifles are only classified as such because of their looks. It is illegal to own a fully automatic weapon now in the U.S. unless you have a Federal permit renewable yearly for each weapon you own. (very expensive)

2nd Admendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”



The Second Amendment was put right behind the First Amendment to protect it and all other amendments from a tyrannical government. Period. It was a guarantee that would give the citizens the ability to someday, if the government ever became tyrannical enough, to over-throw the government. There is no other meaning hidden or otherwise.

What does a reasonably "normal" person want with those kinds of weapons? There are all kinds of hand guns and sporting rifles still available. Only a demented criminal type would cry over the loss of machine guns. Only the military are capable of handling fully automatic weapons in a safe way. Leave them to the military.
