Should the families not be able to sue 'Health Care' in a situation like this?

The provincial government said Sunday it had not yet received Justice Margaret Cameron's report, which was scheduled to be publicly released on Monday.

At least 108 patients whose tests were misread have died, but it will likely never be known how many of them, if any, died as a result of missing out on potentially life-saving treatment.

The report came out today. What a mess this is.

Because the errors are thought to have begun in 1997 and weren't revealed publicly until 2005, there must have been "not only deficiencies within the laboratory but also the failure of Healthcare's management system," the report reads.

Even after the problems became public, the health board, Eastern Health, continued to fail to notify affected patients, the inquiry found. One patient told the inquiry on its last day of hearings that she had only learned she was affected by the scandal last summer - eight years after her tests.

Anyway you slice it, botched management at all levels were to blame for this fiasco. Someones head should roll to show they are now acting in good faith with the people's lives. In Williams defence, he did call the public inquiry and this mess was ongoing before he even came to office. Although that doesn't leave him off the hook entirely since he allowed these terrible oversights to go on far too long before the inquiry was called. It boggles the mind....

Just curious...if Williams wanted to divert attention away from this mess, why would he call the inquiry? Lets not make this about Williams vs. Harper. Lives were lost here and that needs to be addressed first and foremost. The emphasis should be how do we fix this so it doesn't happen again.

And Danny boy pretty quickly tried to make the inquiry completely useless, too, once he realized that his lies about when he knew about it would come out...oh well, he's god anyway. Nobody I know over on the rock would ever consider anything he did to be less than perfect.

Of course he's less than perfect dawg. That's what makes him a great leader.

Let's just say that NL will be better off because of this inquiry. The investigation has exposed the weakness in the system, Justice Cameron's findings will be assessed and her recommendations will be implemented in the coming days. Some people will be turfed for their lack of professionalism but at the end of the day we will see a better health care system. The ramifications will ripple right across the country.
