israels attack on the USS Liberty

On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was suddenly and brutally attacked on the high seas in international waters by the air and naval forces of Israel. The Israeli forces attacked with full knowledge that this was an American ship and lied about it. Survivors have been forbidden for 40 years to tell their story under oath to the American public. The USS Liberty Memorial web site tells their story and is dedicated to the memory of the 34 brave men who died.

I've never heard a satisfactory explanation of this event or the subsequent cover up that makes sense.

The evidence was clear. Both Admiral Kidd and I believed with certainty that this attack, which killed 34 American sailors and injured 172 others, was a deliberate effort to sink an American ship and murder its entire crew. Each evening, after hearing testimony all day, we often spoke our private thoughts concerning what we had seen and heard. I recall Admiral Kidd repeatedly referring to the Israeli forces responsible for the attack as 'murderous bastards.' It was our shared belief, based on the documentary evidence and testimony we received first hand, that the Israeli attack was planned and deliberate, and could not possibly have been an accident.

That is BS. When I was a Marine I was in Washington DC and the survivors of the USS Liberty had a booth set up right across from the White House near the Washington Monument. They were very vocal about what happened and were not under any oath to keep quiet. They were collecting signatures to reopen the case. They even published a book in the 80's about the whole incident chock full of interviews from sailors of the Liberty.

Using the present fighting to justify another anti Israeli smear[as this is] is wrong and should be dealt with by the Mods..unless they agree with these sentiments?

How's that work? You either agree with Izzy and all her ways or you get silenced?

I don't have enough knowledge on this conflict, or this attack on the USS Liberty to
comment either way, but if you feel this is a smear attack, state your case with some
facts, so the rest of us can decide based on these facts...

It isn't Anti-Israeli smearing if it's true.

Don't forget about how Israel mysteriously shelled the living hell out of a UN observation tower, killing the peacekeepers within..... I believe one was a Canadian.

And it's certainly questionable when the tower was clearly marked with a bit "UN" in black on the side of the thing.

And yet, they continually get away with all sorts of things that many other countries would face some serious consequences from.

That isn't anti-israel.... that's just common sense and fact.....

Who get's punished in these situations?

What is done to prevent these from happening in the future?

Who keeps giving them the go-ahead to commit these kinds of attacks?

Why are we still allies with a nation like this?

Questions I seldom see any answers to.... and until I do, my own position remains the same in regards to Israel. And if my views and opinion seem a bit on the anti-Israel, then take it for what it is.....

I don't kiss ass unless it's justified.
