Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede

for those not in the know, "black friday" is the day after US thanksgiving; stores cut their prices to levels ridiculous enough to make boxing day seem like a measley sidewalk sale.

an overnight worker was trampled to death when the overnight-campers rushed the doors as the store opened; another woman miscarried after being knocked down by the throng

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Two people were shot to death in a crowded toy store on Friday in a confrontation apparently involving rival groups, city officials said.

Palm Desert Councilman Jim Ferguson said police told him two men with handguns shot and killed each other. Ferguson said he asked police whether the incident was a dispute over a toy or whether it was gang-related. He said police told him they were not going to release further details until the victims' relatives were notified......

commercialism run amok. Morons.

I wish things like this would make people take a longer look at the fabric of their society.

But it won't. :angry3:

Wow, that's nuts.
When I was a retail mgr we had a `fire` sale in 1980 and I had to open the entrances and I got trampled luckily into a bank of shopping carts and I fell into one...that saved me

The desire to get as much as possible for as little as possible is easy to understand, easy to manipulate, and hard to get rid of. But this story is one of its craziest manifestations..

Black Friday is the equal to the Canadian Boxing Day sales.. The only difference is that Canadians have a little more sense, although we have seen people trampled over ( not killed ) in the past, at big stores sales. Recent Boxing Day sales have been more of a joke then the really good ones I can remember where people would sleep blocks around store like A&B Sound, Future Shop and the like.

Todays big news was Canadian shopping in the US for the big sales.. Even with the weak Canadian Dollar people are crossing the border to shop in the US.
