China congratulates Obama, to push forward ties China National News Wednesday 5th November, 2008 (IANS) Beijing, Nov 5 (Xinhua) China Wednesday congratulated Barack Obama on winning the US presidential race and said it was ready to work with the new president to push forward bilateral ties. 'China and the US share broad common interests and important responsibilities on a wide range of major issues' and Beijing hopes under Obama's leadership their relationship will touch new heights, foreign ministry spokesperson Qin Gang told reporters here. Chinese President Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao earlier Wednesday sent messages to congratulate Obama on becoming the first black president of the United States. Vice President Xi Jinping also extended his congratulations to Joe Biden. Qin said, as President Hu noted in his congratulatory message, strengthening long-term and stable China-US relations 'serves the fundamental interests of our countries and peoples and is of great significance to the maintenance and promotion of peace, stability and development in the world'. 'China is ready to work with the United States to continuously strengthen dialogue, exchanges and cooperation in various fields and enhance mutual understanding and trust on the basis of the three Sino-US Joint Communiques, with a view to pushing forward the bilateral constructive and cooperative relationship and bring greater benefits to people of the two countries and the rest of the world,' Qin said.
