A U.S.-led coalition air strike mistakenly hit an Afghan army checkpoint Wednesday, killing nine soldiers and wounding three, Afghan officials said.

What a suprise.

The strike hit a checkpoint in the Sayed Kheil area of Khost province in eastern Afghanistan, said Arsallah Jamal, the province's governor.

The U.S. said its forces "may have mistakenly killed and injured" Afghan soldiers in what may have been a case of mistaken identity "on both sides."

May have mistakenly killed and injured? No you fk'wit, you guys did actually kill and injure.... there's no may have about it.

And how the hell do you get mistaken identity on both sides in this situation.... it was an Afgan checkpoint.... we're the guys on the ground thinking the Taliban had aircraft and started shooting at them and then the US responded?

Not bloody likely.

"As a Coalition forces convoy was returning from a previous operation, they were involved in multiple engagements," a U.S. military statement said. "As a result of the engagements, ANA [Afghan army] soldiers were killed and injured."

Oh that explains it very well  Do they not have these checkpoints marked on a map somewhere or do they just randomly setup wherever they please without notifying everybody where they are in case they need help?

Morons.

The chief spokesman for U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Col. Greg Julian, said American officials would meet with Afghan defence officials to "sort out the details."

Yeah, so another incident of friendly fire at the hands of the US that we'll never hear about again.

Jamal said U.S. and Afghan troops have been conducting operations in the region for more than a week, and the army checkpoint was in a fixed location.

There you have it.

The air strike killed nine soldiers and wounded three, said Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Defence Ministry spokesman.

Apparent friendly fire incidents have happened before. In June 2007, Afghan police mistook U.S. troops on a nighttime mission for Taliban fighters and opened fire on them, prompting U.S. forces to return fire and call in attack aircraft. Seven Afghan police were killed.

In the last month, uniformed Afghan police officers have twice opened fire on U.S. troops, killing two soldiers. The police officers were killed by U.S. soldiers returning fire, but the incidents raised fears that insurgents have infiltrated Afghanistan's security forces as a cover to launch attacks.

In the country's southern Uruzgan province, a two-day battle that ended early Wednesday killed 35 Taliban fighters and three Afghan police, said Juma Gul Himat, Uruzgan's provincial police chief.

Himat said the battle was led by Afghan forces but also involved helicopter gunships. Afghan forces recovered 35 bodies from the battlefield, he said. Some 100 Taliban fighters were involved in the battle.

More than 5,200 people — mostly militants — have died in insurgency-related violence this year, according to an Associated Press count of figures from Western and Afghan officials.

The USA's disregard for human life (other than their own of coarse) is appalling.

I am always disgusted by US news where they list off their total casualties but never mention all the women and children they have slaughtered. X# of US soldiers have died so far, they will say, and fail to mention the number of innocent people they have murdered is exponentially higher.

Well don't forget, the US doesn't make mistakes and can't do anything wrong.... it's always someone else's fault.

Good place for them IMO. They can't drop bombs on women and children from there.

Yeah and you can just blame the US because they are the only ones providing air cover. And they are providing air cover for your guys as well.

Of the 100 of so Canadian Soldiers killed in Afghanistan, how many of those are due to "friendly"
fire or a 'mistaken' coalition air strike? Just curious...10%? 20%? 50%? None?

Seems to me they bomb our guys too...

Well like I said...we are the only ones who have fixed wing aircraft to bomb. So we provide aircover and airstrikes because the Canadian Govt is keeping their pilots nice and safe.

Plus when you drop bombs they don't always go where you want.

So I also think that they would rather blame US pilots for a mistake than risk making one themselves. Canadians have spouted out a lot of US Air Cover when they screw up but guess what...the only air cover your guys have is from US Planes because for some reason Canada is unwilling to send their own troops Canadian planes to protect them.

According to Keith Oberman--MSNBC....now almost two thousand days since victory was proclaimed.

Not.

And not anytime soon.

Idiots.

Yes, those Afghan soldiers shouldn't have run out under those dropping bombs...

Just like the Afghan Police that got gunned down by Canadian soldiers shouldn't have been driving around in Afghan Police Cars.

Poor, poor USA. It's so tough trying to conquer the world. Nobody understands you kill and murder indiscriminately because you care. You need to kill children because you want them to be safe!

Yep, it's a hard row to hoe but luckily your shoulders are broad. You'll kill everyone eventually. Ya just have to keep the faith - manifest destiny and all that.

If your damn bombs don't always go where you want them too, then don't drop the damn things.

And don't forget we Canadians are there mopping up the mess you damn yankees made.

If it wasn't for you damn yanks, we wouldn't have to be there...

Is there really a differance?

You, we and they should not be there.

It's been tried before.

Same result.

History tells a story but no-one wants to know.
