Northern Ireland police have charged an Irish Republican Army (IRA) veteran in connection with the 1977 abduction and murder of an undercover British soldier.

Police said 57-year-old Kevin Crilly would appear before a court tomorrow on charges of kidnapping and falsely imprisoning Capt. Robert Nairac, a British intelligence officer who posed as a Belfast IRA member.

Murdered: British soldier Captain Robert Nairac who spied on the IRA.
IRA veteran Crilly is charged with his murder.

Six other IRA members have already served prison sentences for their part in pulling Nairac from a pub on the UK/Republic of Ireland border and shooting him in the head. His body was never found.

Crilly went on the run following Nairac's killing but returned from the United States following Northern Ireland's 1998 peace accord.

Police say he was using an alias when arrested Tuesday.
