Okay, so, hubby found this article the other day on yahoo's odd news service (http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/rss/article/175431). It discusses the extending of a jail sentence for a man who was sent to prison for, yes, having sex with a dead deer, for assorted charges that have stacked up against him in jail, such as drugs.

Hubby's automatic response was 'good, keep freaks like that in as long as possible'. My gut reaction 'damn straight!'

But the more thought I give it, the more illogical it is to have sent the man to actual prison for this crime. (I know I know... I'm on a role for having the unpopular view these days it seems). We're allowed to take a dead animal and carve it up, cook it up, soak its skin in chemicals so we can wear it, cut its head off and hang it in our homes. And frankly, if he'd have been caught jerking off with a venison steak, I doubt the charge would be the same. The animal's dead, so he's certainly not injuring it or causing it distress.

Is prison really the right path in this instance? Or is heavy duty counseling a more appropriate route to take? Perhaps with this particular individual, it's best (he has a history of other sex related charges according to the article, including having killed a horse EXPRESSLY for this purpose), but the fact that a law exists pertaining to it strikes me as really funny.

I'm sure that a few people here at CC have had sexual relations with someone who could pass for dead....

lol. I think the forehead tattoo could be a useful tool in crime prevention. Of course, most criminals do have access to cheese graters.

I'd agree with Karrie from a purely legal perspective.

From a rehabilitation perspective I'd agree more, rather than rehabilitate him you've got him getting worse and more dangerous.

Putting him in a mental hospital so they can either fix him or keep him from harming others indefinately may be better.

Tom Green already rotted our minds, it's too late to go back now.

But honestly... Road Kill? I'm not sure what's more screwed up. The guy screwing a dead animal on the side of the road, or the courts sending him to jail for it.

Ewww, could you imagine driving down the highway and passing a dude giving it to a roadkill! I would be so shocked I would probably land up in the ditch myself... then I would be really worried!!

I fully endorse this solution, as long as it's accompanied with a literacy program for deer.

Ewwwwoooooo!
How desperate does one have to be to have sex with a dead deer?

I think your on the right path Karrie. This individual has some real issues that need addressing and prison may not be the place to do it, though I would hope that he would be recieving some form of therapy there.

This is another prime example of how being a scavenger is still in our blood... well, instead of food, he was looking for some free and available skin.... with a few patches of muff here and there that didn't get skinned off by the vehicle that hit it.

I guess the hand can only go so far for some people.

Fornicating with a dead dear is downright filthy, this guy needs to do a stint in a rubber padded room me think. I wonder if rigamortis tightened the deer up? lmao

Was it a consenting deer?
Was it a matter of religion or culture?
Was there equity, ie were other drivers given a turn?
Did he do it in the middle of the road?

There's way more to this dude beyond the deer. This happens to be a serious criminal and the judge is working on getting him off the street. Recall that when the FBI couldn't nail Capone with murder and racketeering, they turned to tax evasion. I agree with Kerrie in theory until we catch Al Capone doin' the deer, and then I agree with the judge. The guy is way dangerous and should be on ice by hook or by crook.

That's all well and good Jim, as I said, it may be best in his case to be locked away, but the law itself picks at me a bit, as it's not quite the straight parallel from tax evasion that it may seem.

Yes, it's distasteful and just plain icky that he did what he did with a deer. But illegal?

What's the basis for it being illegal to have sex with meat?

I think it has more to do with what he did before than just the act of having sex with a dead deer. It was just the final straw.
