Even if Iran had a nuclear weapon (which they don't). and even if Iran had a missile capable of reaching the United States (which they don't), WHY WOULD IRAN DO SUCH A SUICIDAL THING? On the other hand, a "third party" that wants a war between the US and Iran, and whose New York Consulate is already strangely radioactive, would have a very strong motive to set off a "nookular" bomb as long as it can be blamed on the designated patsy.

Some more unilateral sanctions from the US, which, at this point, don't seem to be having a really strong effect?
A naval blockade of the Straits of Hormuz to prevent Iranian oil from getting to its destination?
