The flawed piece of toilet paper being the new clean air act? The made in Canada plan?
This is a remarkable increase from July 2005 where polls showed that only 7% of the interviewed respondants named global warming as the top environmental issue.
The number of research papers confirming the anthropogenic causes of global warming is mounting, and regualar citizens are beginning finally to trust the results of scientists, rather than the absolute language of politics.
Of course the Kyoto accord was flawed, it was signed almost ten years ago. Todays view of the environment has evolved much since then. It was however a starting point, which is better than nothing.
The country was committed to Kyoto. Harper was committed to that summit. The E.U. is not one country. It is twenty five countries who are all buyers, or potential buyers of Canadian goods. Do we really want to alienate them because Harper doesn't want to be criticised?
...if it wasn't you pet project, and it was directed at the US, you would all be behind him 100%. Screaming from the hill tops, "Take that you lousy Americans, stay out of our politics, we're a sovereign nation, we can make our own decissions!"
and that's bad because..... ?
uhhh yeah... no argument from me about that
but this... now THIS gets me riled:
I've never liked someone else telling me what I would or would not do in a situation, nor what I think or don't think... I'm pretty capable of discerning that for myself, thanks... and I'll just say it one more time in case ya blinked and missed it: If it was America holding us accountable, I'd feel the same way. Period. It is neither appropriate nor valid for you to decide on my behalf what response I'd have if it was the States we were snubbing...
Jeeze CB, this coming from the same guy who I gave a thumbs up to earlier today for your ability to maintain an open mind and stay outta the muck.... I retract that comment here and now.
I never stated it was not an issue. It is a huge issue, it needs to be addressed seriously by the individual Nation, not have it thrust upon them by outside forces. It ceryainly does not give the right to any other country to address our involvement with or with out it.
China is below the US and Canada in both carbon emmisions per capita, and total emmisions. They have cleaner technology than we do.
On a per capita basis, Canada is one of the worst. China has what, 1.2 billion people? I don't wanna go there.
Isn't the point more about our accountability and committment as a nation to the problem of global warming? Mr. Harper represents us. So does his abdication from any discussion about this issue.
It doesn't matter who's criticizing us - be it the US or Europe... if our policies are derailing important strides towards progress on an issue that affects ALL of us, we should be present and accountable for that.
Canada finally gets a PM with some cojones - rather than that last ballet dancer you had - and nothing he does pleases the chittering crowd.
Steven Harper decides not to kiss European *** and the Liberals are in an uproar, Boo Fooking Hoo..
