Launching Operation Long Whine, Federal agents arrested 28 suspects and seized 592 kilograms of cocaine, 40 pounds of methamphetamines and $8 million in $$$. This happened during an overnight raid in Atlanta that dismantled one of the largest drug trafficking cells on the East Coast.

RE: Huge Drug Trafficking

There is no war on drugs, MMMike. If there was, there would be real treatment and education programs. Instead we have press releases with overblown numbers to keep the anti-drug industry in demand.

Seems to me the only real solution is to lock up the high level drug dealers in prison indefinitely. This sends a message to others. However, if many are still foolish to take chances with the system, and eventually, if they are at it long enough, Murphy's Law will catch up with them ...

Good thing is this raid took a great deal of coke off the streets. Many users who are dependant on the drug have lost their suppliers. Let's hope some of those affected give up the habbit.

That will just drive the price up and result in more crime, James. The reason for that is that there are few, if any, workable support systems for addicts.

Exactly! More risk will require higher rewards. Higher rewards = more gang violence to control the trade. Higher rewards = higher street level prices = more crime = more desperation = recipe for disaster. Want to win the drug war? Legalize, and use revenues to fund massive dependancy programs.

Legalizing coke and using the revenues to fund dependacy programs amounts to a viscious circle.

You can't wave a magic wand and rid people of addiction. Drugs have always been around since man started fermenting grapes or grains, chewing leaves, smoking tobacco etc... Its part of human nature, and to deny that is to deny reality. Can't you see that there is no end to the "war on drugs"?

Good point MMMike. However, by legalizing coke many folks who wouldn't otherwise consider doing anything which is illegal, might start experimenting with it. We would have a drastic increase in users. More folks would be dependant on the drug. Our society would go from bad to worst. Overdose cases would surely increase. That is why I favor not legalizing drugs and heavy prison time for the drug suppliers.
