State of Emergency in Florida over Rita Storm

World in Brief
Thousands of tourists jammed the highways after they were told to evacuate the lower Florida Keys because Tropical Storm Rita developed over the Bahamas and moved toward the vulnerable, low-lying island chain. A hurricane watch was posted for the Florida Keys, which means hurricane conditions of winds of at least 74 mph are possible. In Tallahassee, Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency for Florida, which gives the state authority to oversee evacuations and activate the National Guard, among other powers

Still 3-4 weeks left in Hurricane season and they will run out of names. Only 4 more names before they have to start using Greek alphabet for names.

Global warming. But Neocons will never admit it.

That's nothing, No1. All the models show the season beginning earlier and ending later as global warming has more of an effect. We'll likely see that within 20 years, maybe faster if the melting of the ice caps keeps accelerating.

There's also a theory that force 6 hurricanes, a classification that doesn't currently exist, could become a possibility

This has been apparent to the non scientific (casual) observer for the past two years. All one has to do is examine the weather patterns in one's local area to "see" the changes.

Here...... hardly any "winter " to speak of . ( just ask the skiiers)... very early spring. ( Top down driving in early Feb.....is not the norm) Very WARM spring.....which merged into an equally warm summer. Fall is earlier than usual ......judging by the temp change and foliage colors. Seems these are major shifts taking place. Not sure how it can be ignored ......they way the bush gov't choses to do so. (or deny). Their ignorance is appalling. But what can you expect from a gang of "believers" as opposed to scientific thinking.---and raw data. ?? :(

Forecast is for RITA to enter the Gulf of Mexico and hit somewhere between South Texas and Eastern Louisiana on a Thursday-Friday timeline! No emergency Preps ordered here but will update!

We don't need you RITA.

Amen, about Rita. After Houston was so nice to the people of New Orleans, they are rewarded by a hurricane of their very own?
Where is the justice in all of this? There is no such thing as justice, is there? GO AWAY, RITA!

Been There

Hurricane Rita now Category 4, heading toward Texas

Hurricane Rita was declared a Category 4 storm on Wednesday morning packing 215 km/h winds.

* FROM AUG. 29, 2005: Hurricane categories

Rita became stronger Tuesday as it blasted the Florida Keys with flooding rain and strong wind, threatening the low-lying island chain with a storm surge of up to two metres. There were fears the storm could bring new misery to the U.S. Gulf Coast as it gains strength from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

It's targeted to hit land on the weekend, most likely in Texas, but Louisiana or northern Mexico could end up in its path.

#Juan, 215 km/h really puts a new spin on it, if anybody doesn't understand it, it means:

Hurriccanes visit the Maritimes also. Juan-2003 in Halifax. China and Japan get visits regularly from Typhoons. Mother Nature is random, just the Seas are warming!

Hot air from Washington, global warming will ruin Louisiana in 50 more years.

There is a cyclone now in the Lethal storms batter South Asia

A cyclone in Orissa in 1999 killed up to 10,000 people.

Vancouver here had Typhoon Freda which hit Victoria and Vancouver on October 12, 1962 and caused seven deaths and extensive damage.

Funny though how in the Atlantic they are Hurricanes, Pacific they are Typhoons and Indian Ocean they are Cyclones. I wonder why all the diferent titles for the same thing?
