members of the texas house of representatives have voted this week to ban high school cheerleaders from performing 'sexually provocative routines'.

the "sexy cheerleading bill" prohibits cheer squads from dancing in an 'overtly sexually suggestive manner'.

representative senfronia thompson stated 'we have legislation in texas that is real pertinent to people, and it is going nowhere, but we are spending time on "1-2-3-4, we can't shake it anymore".

backed by a conservative group called the texas eagle forum, edward's bill passed by a 65-56 margin in the legislature.

I'd hate to be a teenaged boy in Texas. Of course I was a teenaged boy in Saskatchewan. Let me tell you, there is nothing sexier than a line of cheerleaders in parkas and mitts.

Really, Rev? I thought cheerleading was all about athleticism and art.

Not when it's a damp ten below with a north wind...then it's about the kids in the stands drinking whiskey and the cheerleaders dressing in heavy layers.

You all make good points, but... have any of you been to a dance recital lately? How about a competition? It's unbelievable what some of these girls are wearing and what their choreography includes. Some of them are as young as 6 and 7.

It's a pedophiles dream.

High school is a little different, but let's let these kids be kids, eh? They've got years ahead of them to be adults.

But isn't that for the schools and parents themselves to decide whether or not it is acceptable or not? Should the Texas House of Representatives interfere? I think not. The parents of these girls should make the decision whether it is acceptable or not. If they think the moves and the cheerleading itself have become unacceptable, then they should take measurements, and not the House of Representatives.

True enough, Rick, but some parents are idiots. Even in grade 3 some kids are dressing inappropriately, leaving it to the principal to let the parent know about the dress code (which they already know about, of course)

And I like the little slip about taking measurements. Bloody hormones, eh, Rick?
