They found that blood flow improved in people who smoked up to 70 marijuana cigarettes a week -- people they defined as moderate users -- after a month of avoiding cannabis.

Heavy users, who smoked up to 350 joints a week, saw no change in blood flow even after a month, the researchers said.

Seems this is the best they can do for harmful side effects....

70 doobies a week!?! That's like 10 a day. I'd say that anybody that has this sort of dependancy on ANYTHING is going to suffer side effects.....350 a week?!? That's 50 joints a day. I'd say that if someone is smoking that many a day chances are they've got a few more seriios medical concerns...cause that is beyond cronic....

This study is a bunch of BS. They are desperately trying to find some sort of harm associated with pot use, and they are failing.

Marijuana is essentially harmless, and even has many positive effects.

So how come the studies that show positive effects of pot rarely get covered in mainstream media? While studies like this one seem to always get prominent coverage?

Studies into how pot extracts destroy cancer cells with no negative side effects get hardly any media coverage: --

Studies that show moderate marijuana use increases IQ also get ignored or misrepresented: --

Studies that show marijuana use actually reduces accident rates for automobile drivers get ignored: --

And on and on it goes....

Oh yeah, other studies have shown that cannabinoids (the active ingredients in marijuana) can also help prevent the death of brain cells during a stroke, head trauma and nerve gas exposure: --

And here's a huge scientific archive of published research from the US National Academy of Sciences into how cannabis can protect the brain and body:

--

* the first study it shows is called "Cannabidiol and delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol are neuroprotective antioxidants"

Bud. You have to agree though that if someone is smoking 350 doobies a week they have something else terminally wrong with them. In which case having blood flow faster through the brain is not really an worry.

That level is the equivalent of a chain smoker!

350 doobies a week is 50 doobies a day, about one doobie every 20 minutes for 16 hours a day.

I consider myself a very hardcore toker and even I don't smoke more than 10 joints a day, and that is a lot of doobies! I don't know anyone who comes close to 50 joints a day.

And that's part of how these studies mislead, because they use extreme examples that don't relate to the reality of most pot users, and the anti-pot studies also often use synthetic THC-analogues and other things that aren't even pot.

Further, I'd say that although 50 jays a day is pretty darned extreme, I'd still bet that the person who smokes 50 jays a day is in better shape than the person who smokes 50 cigarettes a day, or has 50 shots of alcohol a day, or even the person who drinks 50 cups of coffee a day!
