I had a unicorn as a little girl. It wasn't a TRUE unicorn as he'd been born with both horns. During the burning process only 1 bud was destroyed. The other bud continued to grow a very mishappen horn.

Course my unicorn wasn't a horse....He was a goat.

But I think I'm missing your point.

You feel this is a non issue the mixing of humans with animals?

I don't think it's a non-issue. I do think that the politicians should be informed by ethicists within the scientific community and make their decisions based on that. I also think that every politician should be given a reading list of s/f and have to pass a public test based on that reading list before they are allowed to partake in the discussion. This debate has been approached from every angle in s/f books for decades.

I just know that most of the politicans are going to informed by religious and corporate lobbyists instead of scientists though. Instead of reading a genre of literature where there has been an ongoing discussion of the issue, they'll be looking at quarterly reports and religious doctrine written before we discovered science. Instead of talking to people who specialise in scientific ethics, they'll be talking to their shamen and men in $3,000 suits.

In the end they'll make all of the worst decisions for all of the wrong reasons.

RE: Human / animal Hybrid

I'm gonna cross my cat with a hard right if she doesn't get off the damned keyboard.

I forgot to say why I thought we'd have unicorns before this came up. Things seemed to be progressing that way. There has been talk of cloning a mammoth and gestating it in an elephant. There has also been much talk of gene manipulation in animals.

Those things would seem a natural progression before using human genes. Kind of like practice for the big show. The unicorn seemed to be very likely to me because of the money available from the entertainment industry...imagine the hype around a movie featuring the first real unicorn.
