Quote: How much milk comes from cows injected with Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine growth hormone?
Some in the US, they use it to make heifers mature faster but once they are producing there is no need. Most BGH comes from meat though.
Quote: I think and I could be wrong here but I don't believe they inject milk cows with growth hormones. Beef, yes. Dairy cows are ready to produce after their first mating (just over 1yr of age?)
It's usually 18 months to two years before they can be bred, Twila. Unless, of course, you use BGH.
Quote: What's more disturbing is how they keep the cows producing milk. It's the same way that pharmecuetical companies keep horses pregnant to provide HRT for women. Disgusting!
Pregnancy is a more or less natural state for cows and mares, Twila. Wild animals run similar cycles...pregnant, nursing, pregnant and nursing. Generally dairy cows and PMU mares are among the best cared for livestock. That's been changing with factory farming, but so has everything else.
