Britain is to deploy batteries of high precision long range missiles on Russia’s border for the first time since the Cold War.

The long range rockets will be moved to Estonia next year amid fears Russian President Vladimir Putin could be planning to invade the country.

The rockets are part of a huge military build-up by NATO countries in order to defend the Baltic States.

Around 800 UK troops will deploy to Estonia next year as part of a 15-nation force, including soldiers from the US, France and Denmark.

The Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) fire as many as 12 missiles per minute and are capable of blowing up Russian tanks over a range of up to 45 miles.

The 200lb warheads are guided towards their targets by GPS and are fired from missile launchers bolted onto armoured vehicles. At least 25 Royal Artillery soldiers are expected to deploy to Estonia to operate the GMLRS systems.

The rockets were used with devastating results in Afghanistan from 2007 to blast open Taliban bunkers. Some 410 missiles were fired at the jihadi’s tunnel networks in Helmand Province during the campaign.

Britain’s GMLRS systems will be complemented in Estonia by a UK force of drones, RAF Typhoon jets and Challenger 2 tanks.

Concerns for the security of Estonia and other Baltic States have grown following the US Presidential Election. During the campaign Donald Trump challenged a NATO Article 5 principle that the alliance will defend any members from military aggression.

President-elect Trump suggested that, in the future, US protection for the Baltic States would depend on these countries meeting NATO defence spending targets.

Last night, former British Army commander General Sir Richard Shirreff, an expert on Russian affairs, told The Mail on Sunday that he believed that it would be necessary for hundreds of UK troops to remain in Estonia for the foreseeable future in a bid to thwart Russian aggression.

He said: ‘Unless it is a permanent force then it is not credible. The 800-strong UK deployment is a start, but just that. I would also like to see Britain taking the lead in the protection of the Baltic States, in particular after Brexit.

NATO as a whole must make a statement that it is willing and capable of defending these countries.

‘I fear that unless President Elect Trump reaffirms the US’s commitment to Article 5 that Russian will exploit this situation, absolutely certainly it will, and this could include Russian adventurism in the Baltic States.

‘Because until now the one thing that has secured European defence since the formation of NATO has been the total certainty that whichever President is elected to the White House the US will come to the aid of another member of the pact.’

Wait so your telling me that Britain is helped the defense of a EU member while at the same time the same EU is calling them racists? Of the irony

Britain's a member of NATO, as is Estonia.

It's nice the the UK is finally showing up for the Canadian led mission.

It may be dubbed "Canadian-led", but Canada's only sending half the number of troops Britain is.

The only three powers that really matter militarily in NATO are USA, Britain and, to a lesser extent, France.

So why isn't Britain leading the mission?

I've got no idea. I'm not a NATO official. One thing that is for sure is that Canada wasn't given the role because NATO sees its armed forces as being the best in the world. Canada's major role in NATO is doing the paperwork - and you don't even meet NATO's requirements to spend 2% of your GDP on defence.

The “N” stands for Nathan, who once loaned French tyrant Napoleon five million pounds at the same time he was loaning his British Waterloo adversary the Duke of Wellington money to equip his army. Nathan Rothschild later commented of the incident, “It was the best business I have ever done.”

The “M” stands for Mayer, a student of the esoteric Jewish Cabala who launched the Rothschild banking dynasty with embezzled money and acquired nobility titles for the family by the early 19th Century.

In 1885 Queen Victoria baronized Nathan’s grandson, while the brothers conducted global transactions for governments in England, France, Prussia, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Germanic states and Brazil. They were bankers to the Crowns of Europe with investments as far afield as the US, India, Cuba and Australia.

Not to be left unsaid but why long-range if they are on Russia's border??
Attacking Alaska from Poland with missiles is not a smart move. Take the EU, it is pretty much up for grabs at the moment. Say it's for the children.

Best in the world because they were the first to plant their flag in many places in the world. Once a member always a member or so it seems. Armed forces are for wars, wars are meant to be a last resort sort of thingy so why have you had a standing army for long after you ruled the world the first time and why do you need so many guns when you go back for a visit if the first time was so successful.
Stay and fight to be the best moderate rebels the EU can muster up in this (soon to be ) time of need. (more than usual) Think of all the gas you will save as the front line it right across the channel. Hardly seems to be worth building a whole navy for such a tiny distance.
Perhaps Israel should be given the keys to things that 'fly more than 2 horizons' just so the EU doesn't go overboard like they usually do. Russia is capable of providing protection for Nations that are in the area but not part of the EU's troubles. They will be experiencing a marketing boom rather than a war boom.

Trump is luke-warm to NATO at best, and Le Pen likewise. Le Pen could potentially win the next presidential election in France.

Politically-speaking, NATO's foundations are little wobbly right now.

According to this vid fiat banking was around long before the 12 Tribes had Moses leading them to the Promised Land. The Laws that were in place until then are the ones in Re:21 and they are methods of enslavement rather than enlightenment. When God exiled the Jews to Neb's Babylon it is quite possible that the money changers were part of the abominations that caused the exile. The RCC had the right to run a bank but the interest free loans to the poor didn't fit in with the way the money-changers ran things. If they were worth their salt they would have got all the gold out of the temple before the revolt in 70AD and say back until the RCC was using a different Bible and that made them ripe for the pickings.
First betrayal of the flock was control of the money and their reward was diplomatic immunity from crimes against the flock.

Stick with the OP and reality.

Yes, and please try to stay on this planet.

The Russians want their empire back and Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland are now at the top of the list. Our little Canadian led battle group may find itself surrounded by a major sh1tstorm. I'm reminded of the reinforcememts that we sent to the Hong Kong garrison in the autumn of 1941. The fuse that may set the Russians off is a drop in American resolve to back NATO, which Trump has indicated doesn't fulfill the US needs, anymore.

They never whipped out any F18s to Hong Kong.
