BELIZE CITY, Belize -- An autopsy on the body of a U.S. tourist found dead in western Belize has determined that she was strangled to death.
Anne Swaney, 39, died from "asphyxia due to compression of the neck area, throttling and blunt force traumatic injuries to the head and neck," according to the post-mortem report prepared by Dr. Keyden Ken on Friday night.
Swaney worked as an executive producer for ABC-Channel 7 in Chicago. Her body was discovered Friday morning floating face-down in the Mopan River, which flows from Belize into Guatemala.
Police in the border town of Benque Viejo del Carmen were questioning an unidentified Guatemalan national, who was fishing in the area but denied any involvement in her death.
"We currently have him in custody and we will be pursuing an interview for him to give account of himself," Superintendent Daniel Arzu told local TV news.
Swaney was vacationing at the Nabitunich resort in the Cayo district when she was reported missing Thursday.
Police say members of a tour group she should have been part of returned to the resort and couldn't find her.
Her belongings were later found on a deck by the riverside where she had gone to do yoga exercises.

From the girl in Italy to Belize, a woman's life is becoming less important in the eyes of men it seems.

Could you image the autrocities carried out in regions of war such as the Middle East where women are considered second to a man.

This is just another example of how prudent it would be for people to find vacation spots in the safer countries. It is not a time for anyone to be travelling in certain parts of the world for pleasure.

Let our neive princesses and princes find that out the hard way. ;)

Let nature weed out the stupid like it's supposed too.

Every neighbourhood has its issues, and every country has its
dangers. Look around and get involved, and it'll open your eyes.

Less than a week ago, my girlfriend & I where coming home and
noticed a large (a dozen) group of kids close to our home. I drove
past when it was pointed out that the dozen kids was really eleven
against one. The one was from someplace off the Indian subcontinent,
and the other eleven there not. The one was about eleven years old,
and the pack ranged from the leaders being 14-15yrs old, to the cling
-ons being 8-10years old.

I circled around with the truck, and as I was pointed in the right direction,
the eleven year old had gotten away and was being chased by this pack
of "heroes." The eleven year old made it across an intersection, and I
stopped my truck between him and the "heroes" chasing him, to give
him a chance to get further away to safety.

The two "heroes" proceeded to tell us (My Girlfriend & I) that this was
"Their Neighbourhood" and that they where "G's" (I stand corrected, as
at the time I assumed the "G" stood for Goofs) along with much that
the auto-mod would just censure. I'm assuming these young ladies where
not telling us that they held mortgages to properties in our neighbourhood.

Mid-tirade from these "G's" my girlfriend dug out here cell phone and turned
on the camera function. It was like shining sunlight onto vampires, or
watching mafia coming out'a the courthouse in front of the media. Hilarious!

Hoods came up and faces disappeared. The Hero G's are afraid of cameras.
Go figure! In "their neighbourhood" even. Who would of thought? Oh yeah, I'd
never seen them before, or since. We followed along beside them with my
girlfriend taking pictures for a block and a half to let the young kid they where
attacking in an 11 on one "he-ro" maneuver get much further away.

Eventually (hopefully) we'll run into these young ladies out someplace with
their parents. 'Oh look, it's He-ro & G-spot!' Pleasure to meet you folks!
Want to hear a story? It's a gooder! Can even be a picture book story!

Perhaps the above post isn't politically correct, but it's real.
This (a Canadian neighborhood) wasn't the safest place to
be as the 11 (or so) year old boy being attacked by the "G's"
which apparently stands for Gangsters & not Goofs, though
I believe in instances like this, the G stands equally for both.

I'd print up some posters and put them up saying that they were a lotto winner and the mistake had been cleared up. Please wear same attire to claim your prize.

Those injuries sound like it was the normal stretching that could have caused those injuries if she was a bit tipsy from the night before. Get all pretzeled up and lose your balance, lucky she didn't take her own head clean off.
Perhaps she was in remorse and lost her balance on purpose making it an obvious suicide and nothing to see here.

Make an 'L' out of your thumb and first finger and flash it at them as it stands for 'Loser' rather than 'Lucky' as I had assumed up until just recently. Apparently a 'thumbs up' and a broad grin is not the 'correct reply' when that sign is flashed at you.
Cleaning up the streets has to start somewhere, you making appointments yet and do you travel?

Belize, I would go there. I know a writer who retired there. Beautiful place, although somewhat off the grid.
A murder of a high profile person does not mean the entire country is overrun by Boston Stranglers.
