- She had been forced to cancel a number of recent appearances due to health problems
- 'Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived..with dignity, strength and honor,' her family said in a statement
- Cole won nine Grammy Awards over the course of her career and released 21 albums
- 'She was a lovely and generous person who will be greatly missed,' said friend Tony Bennett
