Six people have been injured - some seriously - in a shocking Christmas Eve crash after an Audi car drove into a Costa Coffee shop this morning.

Police, ambulance and fire services rushed to the scene in Westerham, Kent, following the incident at about 10.30am in the high street area of the town.

The vehicle was seen clipping cars coming from the direction of Oxted - and one local shopper described it as the worst accident they had ever seen, according to local reports.

Six people have been injured - some seriously - in a shocking Christmas Eve crash after an Audi car drove into a Costa Coffee shop this morning.

Police, ambulance and fire services rushed to the scene in Westerham, Kent, following the incident at about 10.30am in the high street area of the town.

The vehicle was seen clipping cars coming from the direction of Oxted - and one local shopper described it as the worst accident they had ever seen, according to local reports.

Emergency: The car was occupied by an elderly couple and its roof was cut off by firefighters, reports claimed


At the scene: Police were called at about 10.30am and attended along with ambulance and fire services

The Sevenoaks Chronicle also claimed that the Audi A4 was occupied by an elderly couple and its roof was cut off by firefighters who attended the scene with four fire engines.

And another witness told MailOnline: 'An old man lost control of the car and ploughed straight into the shop. And then we could see people being carried out.

'I saw one elderly lady who was covered in blood and had cut her head open. Another elderly lady was trying to leave and was crying and sobbing.'

Bridget Rowe, who lives nearby, told the local newspaper that it sounded ‘like a bomb had gone off’.

Twitter user Peter Thornley posted a series of photographs of the crash, tweeting: 'Someone has just driven a car straight into Costa Coffee in Westerham. Madness.'

And Sally Pendleton added: 'Must have been there barely five minutes after it happened. Those poor people. At my count, ten ambulances, eight police cars and two fire trucks in Westerham.'

A mother-of-two called 'Emma' also tweeted: 'Used to work at Costa Westerham. My most favourite job. Staff all OK and accounted for. Loads of love to Zoe and team.'

A Kent Police spokesman told MailOnline: 'Kent Police were called at 10.32am on December 24 to reports a car had collided with a property in The Green, Westerham.

'Police officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene and there are several reported injuries. The road has been closed.'

And a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman tweeted: 'We're currently on scene at an incident at Costa Coffee in Westerham in Kent. We'll give an update when we can.'
